Hi, everyone.

I've been watching this group for a while because I am learning about the Plantagenets and thought this would be a good place to begin. Susan has told me that she is no longer interested, but a few of you have commented that you'd be open to a group read of The Plantagenets: The Warrior Kings and Queens Who Made England.

Happy has generously agreed to try to keep me from falling on my face for a group read beginning in June.

I'd love to hear from any and all of you on this topic. I personally learn the most from a group read and, even if you've already read the book, I hope you'll participate.

Please please please comment on this or anything else you think we can do to revive this group about a very important family and time in England.

Thanks in advance,
Portia

Silvia | 26 comments Well, it definiteley looks like a captivating but challenging task! The book is on my to-read list - maybe I can join the group read if I manage to find a copy!

Thanks, Silvia. I hope so, too! At least stay tuned for my attempts at getting mod status. I didn't expect Susan to offer me the job so she left before I accepted.

Does anyone know Misfit? I'm having no luck in contacting her.

My next step is goodreads.com. I heard that could take ages.

Ah well. Let's see how this goes.

Quick update.

I've sent a message to support@goodreads.com to get moderator privileges but we can still continue in a moderator-free environment.

Has anyone read Richard III: The King Under the Carpark? It really is one of those "slim volumes" English professors used to claim the fifteen books required to be read for Fall Semester were. It has lots of pictures, so I liked it :P

Silvia | 26 comments I haven't, but I'd love to. Unfortunately this one is definitely impossible for me to get! :-(

Yeah, I think you have to order it from Leicester University, whose archaeologists did the digging.

Hi Portia, poof you are a mod. I had no idea I was even a mod at this group until Susanna sent me a PM. Life has been busy for me and I'm not on GR a whole lot like I used to. Susan H created the group and somehow removed herself as moderator. I had no idea, but you're in charge now :)

Hi, Misfit,

Thanks. I hope you'll stay around, though, since you were here at the beginning and I could use all the help and advice I can get :P Susan only just removed herself.

I'm mostly interested in fluffing this group us so we can do some group reads and share info, in a way similar to group The Tudors.

I guess I need to write a real introduction.

Note to self for Friday, April 22.

Taylor If we do read The Plantagenets: The Warrior Kings and Queens Who Made England would it be possible to set a reading schedule? My experience with schedules is that it helps to keep the discussion focussed and seems to increase participation as everyone is going through the material at the same rate.

Wow, did I not press the Post key on this? Sorry! Yes, of course we can and I will set up a schedule. I actually prefer that method.

Remember, Members, only three weeks (count 'em 3) until we have our first group read.

Which means for all of you that it is time for you to be thinking about not only Happy's suggestion of theme reads but also of what we will be reading as a group in July.

So many of you have expressed positive reactions/thoughts about restarting this group so help me out.

PARTICIPATE!!!

Oh, good, Susanna! I'm looking forward to your comments.

Jane I've started it and will be reading it in bits and pieces. It looks pretty readable so far, but I don't know how much info I will retain.

I'm dividing the book up by sections, Jane, so you just have to remember the most recent section you've read and comment on that! ;-)
