Paul (paul_sff) | 70 comments Hello everyone, the Shadows of Self read-a-long will be starting tomorrow, April 16th, and will run for the rest of the month. Shadows of Self is the last favorite novel to be read for the BooktubeSFF awards. I sincerely hope everyone enjoys this book and loves the adventures of Wax and Wayne.

I read this last month in preparation for the awards and really liked it. I felt that the entire book being set in the urban setting, along with the murder mystery/thriller aspects of the book, really set it apart from the other Mistborn books. The extra background information on all our characters, the introduction of new characters, and the pushing forward of the Mistborn mythos, made this a really fun novel.

I'd love to hear what you thought of this book, include spoilers in the spoiler tags.

Some possible discussion topics if anyone wants to tackle them:

1. Do you think that this Mistborn book has a different tone and atmosphere than the other books? Did it work for you?

2. What books, tv shows, and movies did this installment of Mistborn reminded you of?

3. Who was your favorite character in Shadows of Self? Were you surprised by his/her backstory?

4. More information is revealed about what happened between the original trilogy and this installment, what did you think of these revelations?

5. What do you think about the inclusion of guns into this series?

6. What did you think of the thriller aspects of this book?

7. Did the political and economical aspects of Elendel make you think about current real life aspects?

8. What did you think of (view spoiler) (use spoiler tags)

9. What did you think about the reveal at the end? Did you see it coming? Did you like it? (use spoiler tags)

10. What are your overall thoughts on the way the (view spoiler) are presented in this story as opposed to the first trilogy?
