The May Page Count Challenge 2016

I'm usually in team challenges for the chatting. I don't remember individual challenges generating that much chatting. I have taken part in those challenges since they began, and I've yet to win, but I don't really care about the winning. I care about the chatting (as I've stated) and the planning

Yea that's what I love too! And I never would've gotten back into reading if it wasn't for these challenges! I think everyone just needs to take the challenges as being for fun, and not worry as much about the absolute fairness and winning

Yes! Team challenges make this all more fun! The discussions, chats and all... I just love it.

I'd also like to point out there is not another group on GR that does as much to make everything fair as this group, maybe we all just need to take a step back before we complain, myself included :-)
Nothing in life is fair, and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to make it 100% fair. Although I do think it eventually balances itself out, except for Tati Poor girl has never won!

I've not been a member of this group long, but the challenges have been a real incentive for me to vary my reading. I've loved interacting with fellow readers, and think Sarah and Abbie do a great job organising it all.

I agree with everyone so far :) I haven't been in the challenges long, but without them, I wouldn't have picked up reading again, and I'm so grateful for the motivation I get for it, and what you mods do for us all!

This is the best group(as long as I am concerned)!! I love the modes and what they do for is and for this group!

However I noticed, that after I came back from my "challenge-break" the challenges have become more intense! When I started it was more to have fun rather than to win :) But I can't say is it good or bad, maybe both? ☺️

Does the edition we count for this challenge have to be the edition we read? Or, if another edition in another language has a bigger page count, could we use that? I feel like I've asked this question a few times, I just can't remember :p

It doesn't need to be the edition you read, and it doesn't matter which language it's in.

I agree! I see the issues but - Sarah and Abbie are just two people and they have their own lives. Maybe everyone take a breather - thanks Sarah + Abbie for all that you do!

I think let's just keep it how it is. Read as much as you can and Sarah and Abbie will do the points how they've done it all along or adjust it if they think they should. This is just for fun.

Actually the thing is that when it's lopsided every month it takes the fun and motivation out of it when there is no hope of winning. Winning would be the motivating part and I wouldn't be upset in the least losing every month if it wasn't for the fact that usually the top team/teams are doubling the other teams no matter how much we read. But that being said, I won't say anymore about it from here on.

It's just impossible for the mods to guarantee fairness. And of all the times I've participated, here was only one truly unfair month, and that was last month from what I remember. The other times it was pretty competitive in some way.

After taking a break from doing team challenges as a serious player, I was really surprised to see the level of competitiveness. As for losing, when I have lost in the past, it was hard but at least I was able to talk about books and have a lovely discussion with my group which made it all worthwhile.

As a moderator of a different group, I only do solo challenges and they are pretty hard and time-consuming to do scores and such. I can't even imagine what Sarah and Abbie go through. Thank you so much for all that you do and for being so accommodating.

Hey I have a question. I'm currently reading an anthology that has 11 novella length books. It's extremely large (12k kindle locations or so) and I may not be able to finish by the end of the month. Some of the books in the anthology don't have a goodreads page so I wouldn't be able to count them separately. Would I be able to do this: Say I finished 7 of the books in there and after finishing 7 of the books I was 72% through the entire anthology. If I did reviews for every book within would I be able to count 72% of the total pages in the anthology?

I'm with Tati here. I don't enjoy challenges as much anymore because if I sign up for serious, then I stress about having to read a certain amount. If I sign up for fun, then I can't read too much. I always plan to read 20 books a month, but rarely do so - not books that counts for this challenge anyway. It's too confusing having to choose how much one's going to read a certain month. I honestly never know what team to choose. It's taking some of the fun out of it for me. I'd much prefer solo or random mixed teams. Random is random and no-one can complain about that.
Sorry if this sounds harsh. I just think people complain too much. I'd love for challenges to go back to being about the fun :))
