Maven's Character

This is a discussion topic I hope people will chime into since I've combed through a good number of reviews and it looks like people are really invested in Maven's character above almost everyone else (save for obviously Mare and Cal).
My main point: I'm not sure where this love/intrigue for Maven's character is stemming from. Not that I hate him either. To me, his character is a typical villain and doesn't really elicit any feeling in me.
For those who are very invested in Maven, positively or negatively, could you tell me reasons why? Aveyard, herself, even said she enjoyed writing Maven's character the most since he's easily the most complex, but I feel like I missed something. How is he complex?
My understanding: He's the bitter younger brother, momma's boy chasing after a ragtag group of rebels and doesn't even do it in the smartest way. He found a way to subdue Mare, but other than that... what moment is pulling everyone to love/hate him?
And at the end, did he really accept Mare's offer to turn herself in when he had all 3 in his grasp? What? Why not take all 3?

Okay what is about Maven that anyone could love? Hes a piece of POO
Um, I guess it's like he stole our hearts and then smashed it on the ground, chopped it up, and fed it to the lions. Kinda what happened.
I like Maven because I understand him somehow. Since his childhood he stood in the shadow of his perfect brother. His father even did't looked at him. Maybe he heard his whole childhood words like: "You are so weak!" "Are you a girl?" "Be more like Cal!" "Take a leaf out of his book." You are so useless!" "You disappoint me." "I wish you weren't my son."
His brother is so out of the world., dont get mad cal fans, and he's so damn popular with almost all the girls, all the girls that he met, always fall for him or wanted him. (including the MC) And then a girl appears that he (Maven) really really liked, something, the only thing that's supposed to be his. She even understood his feelings. The pain. They were fiances. They were meant to be. But, why? Cal stole the only girl he deeply cared for. He knew it and felt no remorse. And after all Elara appears and told him there is a way to get everything, fame, status, wealth AND Mare (back) and he has nothing to do just leave anything to her and watch. What would you do if you were him? I can't blame him for that.
I blame him for other things. He was was terrible in GS. He tortured Mare. He killed innocent people. Why can't I hate him? Why have I still a crush on him? Despite everything? Because he l-o-v-e-s Mare. I know he loves her deep inside. Even if the world breaks apart he would only think on her. Even in his psychotic state he shows emotions. He said he would find her and save her. So I think it's kinda romantic. (in a twisted way xD okay?) He might be the only person who didn't noticed it but little by little he reached a point where he hold just two things dear and would fight for them till the very last moment: the kindoom (*cought* I mean the crown ) and Mare.
Another fact why I love him is because he already had quite a clear perspective. ( before he became obsessed with Mare) Seriously, he is the 'one who understands' (which is funny because that's his name meaning) He saw the cicumstances in the kingdoom. The problematic aspects of this dynasty. And I also think he has the ablity to change that. He is not like his brother. Cal was blind. Even after Mare opened his eyes, he refused to change it with the apology 'it'll cause to much chaos.'
Honestly what had happened if Maven didn't betrayed Mare? Imagine it! After Cal found it out, told it his father, he'll send them surely to prison and they would be executed as traitors. And then? When his dad dies he'll marry Evangeline and rule the world like his father did. Problably hunting Scarlet Guard. The things being unchanged. Maven spoke the truth when he said Cal is going to follow in one's father's footsteps. Without Elara/Mare on his side he would be the perfect king. Don't forget he did the gultiest crimes for Mare. So he is just a perfect example of a good guy gone wrong. Love can be so destructive. Poor Maven.
Plus I like him because of his evil side. It's really cool. (Unnecessary point. I know.) At least he reminds me of those abandoned cats who are lost without love when you are not there (you know those scenes in drama when it's raining and the poor kitties are in the boxes and the heroine goes with an umbrella to go save them so they won't get sick)

Penso que Maven é uma pilha de cocô. Ele está sempre tentando machucar as pessoas e ele está apenas usando seus soldados agora para bater seu irmão e Mareena . Eu não dizer ódio muito, mas posso dizer honestamente que eu o odeio. Tudo o que ele tem feito é causa dano para todos e tudo. Eu só queria que ele iria perceber que o que ele está fazendo é errado. E é ele doesnt que os soldados de sua perceber que eles estão errados , mesmo que meens que dis obedecer ou seja é beter de fazer isso , porque então eles não vão ser os únicos ferir ninguém.
