"The Shining" is an easier read than "It". "It" is a little hefty, and deals with some heavy topics, so it would depend on whether you want a long-term commitment or a short-term one!

I love "The Shining". It is one of my favorite books. My best friend has been trying to get me to read "It" forever, but it is over 1000 pages and that scares me a little. I just watched the movie, though, and it was so confusing that I may have to read the book just to understand what I saw :/

I'd suggest 'The Shining' too because of its being way more scary and has a far better storyline.

'IT' has a good buildup but I thought the end was a bit of a letdown.
