Theme Nominations - Poll is up for Group Read

It is time already to nominate a theme for our next group read May 15-July 14!
The theme can be anything you can find appropriate books for; a particular tale, a geographical location, an idea or concept.

Themes we have had in the past were:
Unicorns, Folklore, Mythology, Fairy Tales and Legends of Ireland, Asian folklore and mythology, Meta - i.e. Non-Fiction/Scholarly works about fairy tales, Folklore and Mythology of the American First Nations (Native American), Fairy Tale Helpers, Trees (dryads, enchanted forests etc), and Water (Mermaids, Selkies and other water creatures)

Polls for the theme nominations will go up in about a week and stay open for one week.
Then we will nominate books and finally vote for the books!
So nominate away!

Thanks Melanti, I am glad you started this a little early! It will give us more time to find the books.

I am going to nominate something that Margaret originally nominated some months ago. I voted for it but it did not win.

Animal Transformations

This could be anything where a human is transformed into an animal. It should be easy to find books to nominate, as legends, folklore and Fairy Tales of humans transforming into animals seem to exist in many cultures.

This sounds like a great idea, and I know there are a number of books based on shifters from werewolves to dragons.

I think there is an author you and I ( and a few others here) are fond of who often has both animal transformations And deserts in his books!

The Painted Boy, if one considers a dragon an animal, Under My Skin, are about animal transformations, but it takes place in a beach community. That first novel is the only one that ticks both boxes, unless you can think of another.

Your right Julia, Charles de Lint's trilogy Under My Skin has animal transformation but take place in a coastal Californian town.

However The Painted Boy and Medicine Road have animal transformations and are set in the desert.
A part of Someplace to Be Flying takes place in the desert but most in the city of Newford, however it's the book for animal transformations!

I most certainly will! De Lints "Animal People", are inspired by the "First People's" Myths of the American First Nations. The premise of many of his stories and novels is they still exist. Some live as they always have and others have blended themselves into the human world. Over the years many have inter married with humans so many people have varying degrees of "Animal People" blood.
The "Crow Girls" in Someplace to be Flying are some of my favourite characters!
