Novellas: Invisible Fences
Would either of you be interested in any of Greg Gifune's novellas? I have picked up a few of them on kindle unlimited.
I've downloaded Hoard if you wanna do that one. The sequel to Burden is not kindle unlimited so I think I'll pass on that one. Maybe it'll get discounted.
Just a thought: Red Rising is 1.99. Been wanting this so I bought it. It's not horror, but looks like something I would like to try. Anyone read this?
Yeah. I'll give it a try:) Who knows when I'll get to it....lol. I'm gonna change this thread for tomorrow.
The Hoard looks good, I picked it up and I'll start soon! I also picked up Judas Goat (Greg Gifune) and Unit 731 (Craig Saunders), both novellas. Oh, and Parasite Deep by Shane MacKenzie. Let me know if you guys are interested in one of those after The Hoard.
Where is everyone? I shud be at the 50% mark today. I'm really enjoying this one too. Mr Ryker is a really good writer:)
I'm at about 25% now, and will make 50% today also. I agree about the writing. I can't imagine being in the situation that the old lady is living in here!
Cool! I'll try and finish it up tomorrow. I'm going on a trip so ive been a little distracted although the ride shud give me plenty of time to read and catch up!
Finished! I have to say, I didn't think the writing was very good. The story oddly skipped ahead in time in an unclear way. This one wasn't for me, I liked Burden Kansas better.
Unfortunately, I have not finished yet. Back to Dayton and home so maybe I'll get some time to finish tonite. Sorry you didn't enjoy it as much Maxine:(
I really enjoyed the beginning and reading about Pete as a little boy and how his brother died. I felt like more could have been done with the characters to make me care more. However, as it got down to the creatures and the hoard, it kind of lost me. Ok read but nothing special stuck out. 3 stars. I was hoping for something better.

Sounds like we all felt about the same on that one. Were we thinking of picking another novella to read? I'm starting The Ruins today for the group read, and I started the second Necroscope book and a Sci-Fi group read, too, but I could probably fit another one in if we wanted.
Sonya wrote: "I'm still reading this."Sorry, I should have used spoiler tags for my last post! I'll go back and edit them in.

They're all sitting nicely on my shelf waiting to be read :)
Maxine wrote: "Terry wrote: "Sounds like we all felt about the same on that one. Were we thinking of picking another novella to read? I'm starting The Ruins today for the group read, and I started the second Necr..."I think Judas Goat sounds pretty interesting. I'd read either of those.

I read the first one last fall in the group read and really liked it. I've heard the series gets better in the second and third ones.
I think I'll start Judas Goat on Wednesday, anyone else care to join me? No pressure just throwing it out there.
I'll join along for the read, Maxine. Wednesday works fine to start for me.Hope everyone had a great Mother's day, too!

Thanks Terry. I spent the day at the beach with my kids and got a little sunburned.
Wednesday it is, should be a fast read.
I really liked this one, found is very disturbing and creepy. I feel like Gifune's novellas could easily be expanded into full novels, there's so much going on! I'm starting to see a formula though, where he has little partial flashbacks and then the big reveal at the end. The quality of his writing is very good though.
I agree, Maxine. I did like his writing style. I do think this one would have benefitted from being a little longer, too.
I just read it too (on my lunch break). Definitely weird! I don't know if my reaction would have been the same as Stu's.
Addy wrote: "What kind of reaction wud u have had? I think the money was a good plan."I would hope I remained calm like he did, but not peed on myself - although, probably not uncommon when a gun is involved!

Oh no, it was fine, I'd even read the sequel, just didn't like Keith much. I thought the backstory was interesting.
