Oh no, it was fine, I'd even read the sequel, just didn't like Keith much. I thought the backstory was interesting.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments Would either of you be interested in any of Greg Gifune's novellas? I have picked up a few of them on kindle unlimited.

Terry | 5385 comments Sure could. Which ones would you have in mind?

Terry | 5385 comments Addy, were you still thinking of Hoard by Ryker? I have the sequel to Burden, Kansas already, too

message 55: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments I wud do Hoard or a Gifune book. Doesn't matter to me.

message 56: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments I've downloaded Hoard if you wanna do that one. The sequel to Burden is not kindle unlimited so I think I'll pass on that one. Maybe it'll get discounted.

Terry | 5385 comments I have The Hoard also, so we could do that next and one of Gifune's books after that?

message 58: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Sure. I can start it today if u want.

Terry | 5385 comments I'm swamped today! I'll have to start it tomorrow.

message 60: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Tomorrow is fine:)

message 61: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Just a thought: Red Rising is 1.99. Been wanting this so I bought it. It's not horror, but looks like something I would like to try. Anyone read this?

Terry | 5385 comments I've looked at that one before but haven't read it. Looks good though.

message 63: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Yeah. I'll give it a try:) Who knows when I'll get to it....lol. I'm gonna change this thread for tomorrow.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments The Hoard looks good, I picked it up and I'll start soon! I also picked up Judas Goat (Greg Gifune) and Unit 731 (Craig Saunders), both novellas. Oh, and Parasite Deep by Shane MacKenzie. Let me know if you guys are interested in one of those after The Hoard.

Terry | 5385 comments I think all three of those look good Maxine. I would read all three of them.

message 66: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments I read Judas Goat...I think, but I'll double check. I'll join in the others too.

Terry | 5385 comments I only made it about 30 pages into The Hoard today, but plenty grossed out already.

message 68: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Trash juice....*shudder*

message 69: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Where is everyone? I shud be at the 50% mark today. I'm really enjoying this one too. Mr Ryker is a really good writer:)

Terry | 5385 comments I'm at about 25% now, and will make 50% today also. I agree about the writing. I can't imagine being in the situation that the old lady is living in here!

Terry | 5385 comments I finished The Hoard today. Not bad. I ended up rating it 3 stars (view spoiler)

message 72: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Cool! I'll try and finish it up tomorrow. I'm going on a trip so ive been a little distracted although the ride shud give me plenty of time to read and catch up!

Terry | 5385 comments Sounds good. Hope its a fun trip!

message 74: by Maxine Marsh (new)

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments I'm at 54%, hoping to finish it up soon.

message 75: by Maxine Marsh (new)

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments Finished! I have to say, I didn't think the writing was very good. The story oddly skipped ahead in time in an unclear way. This one wasn't for me, I liked Burden Kansas better.

message 76: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Unfortunately, I have not finished yet. Back to Dayton and home so maybe I'll get some time to finish tonite. Sorry you didn't enjoy it as much Maxine:(

message 77: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments I really enjoyed the beginning and reading about Pete as a little boy and how his brother died. I felt like more could have been done with the characters to make me care more. However, as it got down to the creatures and the hoard, it kind of lost me. Ok read but nothing special stuck out. 3 stars. I was hoping for something better.

I agree Addy. I thought the idea of (view spoiler) was really interesting but it didn't seem to pan out as much as I'd hoped.

sonya marie madden | 926 comments I'm still reading this.

Terry | 5385 comments Sounds like we all felt about the same on that one. Were we thinking of picking another novella to read? I'm starting The Ruins today for the group read, and I started the second Necroscope book and a Sci-Fi group read, too, but I could probably fit another one in if we wanted.

Sorry, I should have used spoiler tags for my last post! I'll go back and edit them in.

I am going to get around to either Judas Goat or Unit 731 soon if you want to buddy on one of those (they are both kindle unlimited).

Also, tell me how you like the second Necroscope book, I was in love with the first one (a rare reread for me), and now I've collected the whole series in paperbacks. They're all sitting nicely on my shelf waiting to be read :)

Terry | 5385 comments Maxine wrote: "Terry wrote: "Sounds like we all felt about the same on that one. Were we thinking of picking another novella to read? I'm starting The Ruins today for the group read, and I started the second Necr..."

I think Judas Goat sounds pretty interesting. I'd read either of those.

I'll let you know what what I think of the second Necroscope book. I read the first one last fall in the group read and really liked it. I've heard the series gets better in the second and third ones.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments I think I'll start Judas Goat on Wednesday, anyone else care to join me? No pressure just throwing it out there.

message 87: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments I've read that one, but wud be interested in both ur thoughts if u guys decide to read it.

Terry | 5385 comments I'll join along for the read, Maxine. Wednesday works fine to start for me.

Hope everyone had a great Mother's day, too!

message 89: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Thank you Terry! I had to work Mother's Day so we celebrated the day before:)

Thanks Terry. I spent the day at the beach with my kids and got a little sunburned.

Wednesday it is, should be a fast read.

Terry | 5385 comments 44% (view spoiler)

Terry | 5385 comments I got finished this evening, went with 3 stars. (view spoiler)

message 93: by Maxine Marsh (new)

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments I really liked this one, found is very disturbing and creepy. I feel like Gifune's novellas could easily be expanded into full novels, there's so much going on! I'm starting to see a formula though, where he has little partial flashbacks and then the big reveal at the end. The quality of his writing is very good though.

Terry | 5385 comments I agree, Maxine. I did like his writing style. I do think this one would have benefitted from being a little longer, too.

message 95: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments I've changed this thread to Operator B. Terry and I will be starting tomm. Feel free to join us!

message 96: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Prologue was definitely interesting and weird!

Terry | 5385 comments I just read it too (on my lunch break). Definitely weird! I don't know if my reaction would have been the same as Stu's.

message 98: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments What kind of reaction wud u have had? I think the money was a good plan.

Terry | 5385 comments Addy wrote: "What kind of reaction wud u have had? I think the money was a good plan."

I would hope I remained calm like he did, but not peed on myself - although, probably not uncommon when a gun is involved!

message 100: by Addy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Addy | 5121 comments Lol. I'd forgot he'd peed himself. But yeah, I cud see that when there's a gun involved.
