Hello Windy,
I visited your profile page. There where it says ‘Windy’s Bookshelf’, I clicked on ‘Read (503)’. This brings up a list of all the books you’ve read, all 503 of them, 20 per page, 26 pages in all.
If you look across the header on the top of the book list, you will see column tiles like ‘cover’, ‘title’, ‘author’, etc. There over to the right you will see a column labeled ‘date read’. If you click on that column title, you can change the listing to display the books in the order they were read, either newest first, or the oldest first.
However, I notice only one of your books has an entry on ‘date read’, a book by Booker Cory. On each of your 503 books you will first have to manually enter the date read. You can find these dates on your CSV file.
I would like to tell you which column of the CSV file contains the date read, but I have modified my file by converting it into an EXCELL file because I’m more comfortable with EXCELL. I’ve deleted columns that didn’t have any interest to me, so now it is quite a bit different than my original CSV file.
I hope this helps.
Ray
Back with another question. I've noticed not all of my books were transported from Shelfari, a significant amount. I Am wondering if my "reviews" were transported with books & how do I check that, also how do I get Hearst of my books over here? So much time & effort went into compiling my shelves on Shelfari. Thanks!
I'm going to take the time to read this FAQ thread, I'm sure there's valuable, helpful information here. I want to love GR as much as I did Shelfari.
Did you keep the file that you exported here to Goodreads? If you didn't, that opportunity went away once Shelfari was shut down. You could contact Goodreads support for help as they may still have access to your files.
Oops I don't think I did! I will contact team. Are our reviews transported with our books Jonetta? Thanks!
The early exports seemed to be an issue. However, they should have been part of the file. The later files (those done after April) seemed to have resolved most of the problems.
I received the file from GR with my Shelfari books. How do I use it. Spell check messed my prior comment up
Did you outline to them the issues you have with the import? Ask them to help you get the data right on GR. You need to initiate a back and forth dialogue with them until it's satisfactory.
Jaclyn imported them for me & she said for any that don't import it's best to add manually. I will work on checking the list this week & see if I can get organized here. Thanks.
You're kidding! Please, push back on that and ask for help again. Tell her you are NOT technically savvy and would appreciate someone from the team giving assistance.
They are here now. Don't know why but when I did original transport a few months ago, only 400 & something showed up. AFter they did it for me today I have over 1000 & that's correct. Only trouble is some show up twice now.
Excellent! There's a way to deal with duplicates. Go to the menu at the top of the page and select My Books. When that page displays, you'll see your bookshelves listed on the left. Scroll down until you see "tools" and underneath that section you'll see "find duplicates." Select that and you'll see a page displaying your duplicates. Keep working them until they're all gone.
Manually added my most recent so should be up to date now... I know when they came all over originally from Shelfari some didn't make it, but I'll live with it as nearly up to date as its ever going to be!
My question still remains... I got so frustrated with the GR site that I never came back to try to fix this. There *is* a date read by column in my csv file, but why did GR not recognize this in the upload? I'm willing to delete my list from GR and re-upload... is there a way to direct GR to the date read by column?Original post up top and copied here for ease of reading:
I successfully transferred my info from Shelfari to Goodreads, using the csv file or whatever it was they sent me.
However, now all 500 books are listed in a mish mash, no order whatsoever. I want it listed in order of finish date (today's book on top). How do I get goodreads to recognize the finish date from the csv file?
Or will I need to hand-enter all 500?
Thank you to anybody who can help!
Wendy, best advice is to contact support via email with the csv file attached. Explain in detail what you need them to do. Others have had pretty decent results with this approach.

Contact: support (at) goodreads (dot) com
Explain the problem, in detail. They may ask you to submit your CSV file ... but wait for their email first (they might be able to fix it by going to your current list on goodreads.
