Ryan | 9 comments The book probably was written in the 1970's, I myself read it in the 90's the genre is Science-Fiction, someone crash lands on a planet and wakes up on a planet full of robots/androids, with little to no organic lifeforms. The robots/androids nurse the man back to health (possibly other survivors but they were too injured and died before or are dying).
He slowly he starts exploring the planet and notices cities/continents with extremely powerful weapons.

Conclusion: after a cataclysmic war the inhabitants wiped themselves out leaving the robots/androids alone on the planet. Because the planet/solar system is enveloped in a nebula they didn't know there was anything else in the universe because they couldn't see anything beyond the gas and dust. They had no need to explore space and poured all their resources in weapons and war. Obviously the concept of Mutual Assured Destruction was not known to them.

On the cover were two robots/androids in a zombie like pose with their arms out as if they were reaching for something. The background was possibly brown or dark green.

This is my first post sorry if I made any mistakes.

David Rose | 46 comments Sorry, I just cannot find it. Which is annoying, because I know I've read it. I hope someone else can come up with it, because now I'm also looking for help :P

Here's a list of some of the authors I searched through (not exhaustively, I was using the key phrase 'robot world'), which turned up quite a few but none of them were the right one.
But maybe the list will jog someone's memory:
Brian Aldiss, Poul Anderson, Isaac Asimov, Alfred Bester,
James Blish, Ray Bradbury, Frederic Brown, Algis Budrys, Hal Clement, Edmond Cooper, L. Sprague de Camp, Lester del Rey, Philip K. Dick, Gordon Dickson, Philip Jose Farmer, James E. Gunn, Robert A. Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Damon Knight, Cyril M. Kornbluth, Keith Laumer, Fritz Leiber, Frederik Pohl, Eric Frank Russell, Robert Sheckley, Robert Silverberg, Clifford D. Simak, Theodore Sturgeon, Jack Vance, A. E. Van Vogt, Jack Williamson.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Have you read _Code of the Lifemaker_?

message 8: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 9 comments no I have not

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Not quite MAD, and I don't remember if there'd been a human POV character dropped there, or not.

message 10: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 9 comments just checked Wikipedia and the summary doesn't look like what I'm looking for, but thank you for that. I will check it out though

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 215 comments Could this be something by Stanisław Lem? I vaguely remember something about being the only human on a planet full of robots, probably from the Ijon Tichy series.

Rivets and Sprockets I haven't read this, it was just on ebay when I was searching their sci-fi kids books. I remembered this thread, so thought I'd suggest it.
