CassieV | 51 comments No, I was on the computer and the shelf cut off at 100 pages. It's not a big deal. If I get time, I'll go ask (I've been lazy), if I don't finish a book that works for it soon.

I've learned from Bookshelf Bingo that it's easier to check a book that you're interested and you think might have been given that tag. It's much easier! If anybody gave it that tag, then the book is on the shelf. I vote your book works! :)

ETA - I see what you mean. I thought you said it cut off after 100 books. I still vote your book works!

message 103: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 51 comments Oh yes, I didn't go through all one hundred pages! I checked the book, but when I went to verify on the shelf, that's when I found that it cut off at 50 tags, when my book only had 35.

I'll get off my lazy butt and go to the computer so I can ask...

Laura | 884 comments Adding that I will read (top secret, next Carnie book) for my space. And I don't think my current read would work anyway, if the shelf cuts off at 100 pages.

Connecticut Avenue
The Sister Queens by Sophie Perinot
Date Read: 4/23/16
Rating: 3 Stars
Review: I liked this book, but didn't love it. I feel like the queens had very modern thoughts and ideals, which was tough to reconcile with the era, but it was still a good read. I read another book about these queens in 2013 (Four Sisters, All Queens), so this book seemed eerily familiar. I gave both 3 stars, they were both good, but not mind-blowing, and I would say read one or the other, but not necessarily both.

P.S. Shelved 9 times as books-I-own...not sure where I got 35 from!

Review: just not my cup,of tea - only finished as I needed it for my challenge. I loved Robert A. Heinlein books and have read them all - I really thought I was getting a modern version of his works. Didn't come close for me..

I now own St Charles Street

Think I might go crack open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate becoming a property tycoon!

Review:
It's been a couple of years since I read the previous book in this series, so there was some context I had forgotten. But the author does a nice job of pulling in what I needed to know for this one. I enjoy the MC, Izzy, who is irreverent and relunctant grown-up. And as snarky and humorous she can be, she feels some sadness that she doesn't want what most women want and therefore feels on the outside. But she grows up quite a bit in this book and finds an acceptance in who she is. There is an optimistic tone in her at the end that I like. One more to go - I hope she gets her HEA because she deserves it.

Review: I don't really know what to say about this book. It was incredible. And it sucked. I know that not every story has a (view spoiler) It was bittersweet.

The historical information about Kennedy and the late 50s/early 60s time period was so good. I think I really have a feel for the time period now.

This was my first Stephen King novel. It probably won't be my last, although I'll steer clear of anything horror-related.

When I landed on this space it was unowned, so I only need to read one book, but I don't own it now.

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
5/1/16
4 Stars
Fits: Shelved 9 times as "Maybe"

Review: It took me a while to get into this one, even though I love Jane Austen. Fanny is definitely a hard to like character, but I identified with her quite a bit, as I used to be that shy, nervous type. I think that helped me feel for her, where most reviewers just find her annoying. By the end, though, she began to grow a bit and I enjoyed it enough to add to my Austen collection :).

Only one needed and no other players on space, so it's MINE ;)

I know that most people love this classic novel, I am not one of them. I found the rambling style too distracting for my taste, which I know was a style that was supposed to highlight the PTSD that Billy suffered from. I am glad I have read this classic, but I am unlikely to be picking up more of this Author's work.

Defending Jacob by William Landay
Date Read: 5/2
Rating: 3.5 stars
Review:

This has taken me sooo long to read, not that it wasn't any good but to me it seemed really slow.
The story was good, basically Andy (a lawyer) has a son called Jacob, who is your usual moody teenager, except he isn't, he's a murderer........or is he??
The whole book pretty much is in a courtroom and takes you step by step through the case with the clues and what happened.
Andy believes his sons innocence throughout, but Jacobs mother starts to have 2nd thoughts...

Review: I defy anyone to read this book and not feel shame. This is a devastating history of the Native American Indians and the genocide meted upon them by the white settlers in the 19th century. No moral human being could fail to be moved to tears by this book. It was heartbreaking.

I own Vermont Avenue! (do I? Or has someone lapped me?)
