If you don't want to wait though, no problem, I completely understand. :)

Great One! I hope more do join us too - I've heard so many good things about the book!
This as well as Wise Man's Fear are absolutely fantastic in my opinion. Doors of Stone is top 3 for most anticipated for me.

Even so, Name of the Wind is one of my favorite books ever. For a book I only discovered 4-5 years ago, I have read it probably 4 times lol That's much higher than any other recently discovered gem. I got it as an Audiobook and the narration is spot-on. It makes a perfect, episodic companion for long dog walks, road trips, monotonous work, etc.
I'm actually around ready to start the Dresden Files audiobooks over again for that purpose, but I could go for another round of NOTW soon myself.

Kvothe is one of the most arrogant characters I've ever seen. He's not a lovable character. He will do anything, cheat and lie to get ahead.
Part of the reason I think most people love the book is because of Rothfuss's writing.

Agreed. I think I said it to Margo recently as well that you also have to remember its the older Kvothe telling the story , so he shapes his younger self in certain ways .
And while I think he was a tool I still quite like him as a character. He is both the smartest and dumbest in every situation which makes it quite interesting

Don't read the sequel LOL He is a thousand times worse, and the writing brings his prodigious abilities to the point of godlike, Mary-Sue, cringe-worthy wish-fulfillment. IMO, of course ;)

Don't read the sequel LOL He is a thous..."
The sequel was actually the last book I bought at Borders.
I thought Kvothe was actually more tolerable when he wasn't at school.
Some hated the sequel because they have found it was more of the same thing as the first book.

I agree with what Paul had said. Kvothe is narrating the books, he is Edema Ruh, you don't think he would be embellishing things to talk himself up. I never really saw him as being that arrogant or amazing at everything. No more than characters in many other books.

That's the first time I've seen it written, because I listen to the audio version :D
I thought he was amusingly full of himself in book 1, which led to many downfalls. On the other hand, he was truly gifted in many moments. So it was a mix of genuinely having much talent, embellishing things, having youthful arrogance, and setting up for a really huge fall that we see in his "adult" tavern.
Book 2 was just a mess for me LOL I no longer felt like HE was the problem, but the direction of the writing. As I said, I still enjoyed it. The fight against the bandits at the end stands out in my mind as awesome. But I don't know if I'll ever go back and read this one.
(Still eagerly waiting for the sequel however.....even if I can't see how he can deliver the promises laid out on Book 1 considering the bizarre ego-stroking LONG tangents in Book2 :P )

Agreed, I only want to read the past to see how he got where he is right now.

So apparently I need to turn on my notifications for this thread....of course I can wait! I'm excited to read this and buddy reads make it much more fun

The third part is on the way and I have already forgotten most of the last two.
Contrary to popular opinion in this thread. I adored Kvothe, maybe because when I read his teenages, I was on the same age myself. That's why he felt a lot relatable to me.
But I am still more excited to see him in his present self. And by his present voice, one can know that his arrogance is intentional by author. Because he has hinted quite often about things he has messed up in his past. So it always leaves me feeling intrigued.
My fav heroes journey this far... :D
I loved both books and the third is possibly my most looked forward too book. I agree that even tho the journey in his past is interesting I am more excited to see what he does in the present as Kote
So I'll wait a bit more before starting to read it, please join in I you havent read it.
