I read this novel around 2005/2006. It followed a group on a ship (water, not space) trying to defeat the bad guy (pretty typical plot with good vs. evil). The good guys had a teenage vampire with them (turned when he was 14, I think) that was often described as well-endowed and having either acne or acne scars. The villain has some sort of power (maybe a stone?) that can be used to destroy lands. I recall he destroys one place and it's described as glass afterward? The vampire becomes human at one point, but becomes a vampire again by the end of the book (I think he's present when the villain destroys the town/country, which cures him of his vampirism? And gives him clear skin). I think it was part of a series, but I only read the first one.
The cover had a lot of yellow and was possibly of the ship (illustrated artwork like a lot of old school high fantasy novels). I also seem to recall the title involving "light" or something related.

Also, I think the author was male.
