I think that making sure that people a) remain courteous (debate is healthy when positive), and b) refrain from spoilers unless in spoiler brackets is pretty much it.

I haven't read any Mark Billingham yet. Is this the best one to start with, do you think, or should I start with #1 of the Tom Thorne books? Does it matter if they're not read in sequence?

Bill I would start with Number 1, Sleephead. It introduces the character.. Mind you, I've read this series out of sequence and I don't think it's affected my enjoyment.
