The Giver is a story about a community very different from the normal world. A young boy in this society named Jonas learns all the secrets and memories of the community. Twelve year old Jonas believes it is his job to change and fix the community before it all goes downhill. This story is a great read for all ages especially middle school aged because it allows the reader to connect more with the main character of the book. The Giver is a story that both expands and influences the reader in a huge way. When you read this story you can imagine yourself in a similar world and think how you would act or feel and if you would go along with the community or have the need to change something about it like Jonas did. While reading this book I felt compelled just as Jonas did because of the many social problems within this community. These problems included becoming an adult when you are only twelve years of age, not being about to create your own family, getting told when you have to leave/die. All of these issues bring up a larger social significance of why no one was doing anything about it. People in this community just thought everything was alright until young Jonas decided things had to change.
