3. Are the main characters dynamic—changing or maturing by the end of the book? Do they learn about themselves, how the world works and their role in it?

Hannah is definitely dynamic as is her companion that she later names Hester. Most of the other characters are not.
I would also add Gabriel to Anna's list he is dynamic, engaging and seductive.
I think nearly every character was dynamic. They were living in dangerous places, and traveling to the unknown. If a person didn't have an outsize personality before they went to America or India, they adapted and/or developed one quickly.
Hannah was definitely a dynamic character. Her ability to adapt and change over time is remarkable. The only other character that i perceive to be dynamic is Hannah's maid...I forget her name Bhamti? Most other characters really represented a type of person within that particular culture.
Personally, Hannah and Gabriel with both somewhat memorable. There were a lot of characters in the book that were very forgettable. I found myself getting lost in the different English names in White Town. Oh yeah, the servant girl at the end of the book was also memorable, a bit mysterious. That was almost interesting. Hannah definitely changed by the end of the book, I don't really understand it all though. She actually seemed a bit loony, it didn't make sense to me in the end.
