My thoughts on the romance:
I was especially intrigued with the love triangle dilemma Kate faces while dealing with two separate timelines. I was secretly hoping (and am still hoping as the story continues) that Kate will pick Kiernan, who has devoted his life to Kate and her causes. I was surprised that Kiernan is so understanding about Kate's relationship with Trey and I expected -- given their past/future together -- that Kiernan would do more to win her back (like Kate is planning to do with Trey). I can only hope that Kiernan brings back some of the passion he had for her in the past/future during the next installment of the story.

Trey is a great guy, too -- in a more simple, good-friend-to-have kind of a way. True, he has only had a short time to prove his devotion to Kate -- and he more than comes through for her during the short time that he has, so there's definitely potential... I'll just have to wait and see how the story develops. :)

As I mentioned in Message 21, although I really like Trey, I'm rooting for Kate to pick Kiernan. Trey's a good guy, but Kiernan has devoted his life to Kate and her causes.

So I'm happy to read a story from Kiernan's point of view. Not much of his charm or passion comes through in the first chapter, though. I hope that will change. He's a bit bland here.

Questions:

What happened in 1938? Who died? And what's with the gold ring?

Kate is only 19 and Kiernan 21, but I'm guessing the gold ring means that they are married. That would raise they stakes for Kiernan to get her back from Trey.

As I mentioned above, I was really excited to get a chance to get to know Kiernan better, but I'm just not feeling it. I'm a third into the story and his character is just too flat -- none of the passion and intensity that I saw in his character in the first book. So far he could be anybody. No specific personality (or at least not an interesting one).
