April Group Read: And Then There Were None

Oh cool, my suggestion got picked again! I actually started the book last week, I'm like 20 pages in and I'm just waiting for the ball to start rolling!!

I haven't started the book yet, but I think I'll get to it sometime next week! Super excited to finally start an Agatha Christie novel. Has anyone read her other novels before?

Its really good. Ive read it so ill read Night Circus instead. Is it good?

I really liked Night Circus! Have you read other novels by Christie as well?

I don't know about Jodi but this is my first Christie novel! I'm very excited to finally start reading her work.

I haven't started the book either but I do have a copy of it. I'm excited to read this. I especially excited because I think the Doctor Who episode with Agatha Christie is based of this book (at least that's what I think based on the description. At least partially). I haven't read any other Agatha Christie books.

As for The Night Circus, I personally didn't find it all that great. I didn't see what the hype was about. It was meh for me. But I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I have about 60 pages left in this book and I can't seem to put it down! Once it gets going it just doesn't stop.

I'm planning to start today. I've been wanting to read something by her for a while , so I'm really excited for this one.

Okay then, it seems like very few of us haven't started yet, but I'm glad a lot of you guys are looking forward to reading it!

So Agatha Christie is like super famous for her mystery/crime, do you like those kind of books? Also, for those of you who have read her books, what do you think her writing style is like?

I love mystery books. I actually finished the book today, and I really loved it. Agatha Christie really was a fantastic writer, I kept guessing until the very end.

Hi everyone, I just start reading this book, but I read the Indonesian version. Hope I can relate to all of you. actually this is my second time but I've forgotten the details so yeah, it's worth a re-read. i've read some Christie's works during high school and mostly i liked them. like she's the only author I knew back then and now i'm so excited to read her work again. the mystery she creates always kept me curious and so addictive. she's so good in making a hard to guess mystery.

I've finally started this book! I'm only on the first chapter though, but my edition of the book has this sort of introduction from Agatha Christie saying how proud she is of this book because she's kind of hard on herself when she was reading it. So since the author is really proud of the book herself, I know it'll be that good!

I really like mysteries as well Julia, especially recently I'm in a huge mystery/crime kick!

How far are you into the book, Eka and Sara?

I'm still on chapter 1 but since I'm free now I'll probably cover more by the end of the night..hopefully.
Also I'm not actually a fan of reading mysteries bc I'm very impatient so I usually get my friend ,who has a great memory, to read it and then tell me everything in one sitting. I call those books my unofficially read books.

Me, off title: I'm reading Night Circus, and I'm really enjoying it. It's a wildly imaginative, though it does get a teensy bit Disney-esque here and there, but only mildly. I checked online and the film adaptation is already in the works. This is a Baz Luhrmann movie, were I asked to pick a director. Baz did Moulin Rouge and Gatsby. Imagine what he could do with Night Circus!

Wow, knowing there is such an introduction, I should not be disappointed with this one then. I'm still in chapter one as well. This time I pay much attention to every characters because i don't wanna be so shocked in the end by turning the previous pages again. Hahaha. Learning from my experience in reading mystery novel.

I wonder if the children poem does exist. it's horrible.

I think that it's a real poem if I'm not mistaken.

wow, unbelievable. i mean, what kind of person made a children poem like that? except there are some changes to go with the death.

[Sara]

Actually I don't think it is real, any reference to the poem is from this book; but I have found another folk poem called Ten Little Indians but it's not the same as this one and not half as offensive.

Welcome! What do you guys think about the characters so far? Are you rooting for anyone?

[mollusskka]

i found difficulties remembering the characters at least until chapter 3. i always forgot who is who. so far i'm rooting for Justice Wargrave and Blore.

Personally I don't really like any of them much,but I don't think the point is to like them. I mean they're all people who have done bad things, either purposely or by their carelessness. Nonetheless I do like Lombards sarcasm and dry humor,he seems like a fun time.

yes, i agree with your point Sara. they all have done terrible things. somehow i imagine Jude Law as Lombard. Lol. btw, i think Mrs Rogers is the luckiest because she died in her sleep. the rest is just appalling.

I've finally read it and I'm soooo engrossed in it! I reached the halfway point in basically one sitting and I just can't stop reading it :')

Same thing happened with me ,once I really got into it I couldn't put it down. This book had definitely changed my outlook on mystery novels, I can't wait to read more of them and in particular more of Agatha's work.

Everybody here seems a fast reader. I'm so left behind.

I found myself rooting for Vera as the book went on, she seems like the kind of character I would love to play onstage in the play adaption of this.

Another great Christie fave of mine:
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

I couldn't really say who my favourite character was either. I agree with someone's comment up above that said it wasn't very necessary in Christie's opinion to actually like any of the characters.

I've seen Murder of Roger Ackroyd in my library! I think I'm gonna borrow it and read it soon then :D Is it good as well?

I actually read this as an audiobook and I was disappointed, unfortunately I didn't care for it as much as I had hoped I would.

How so Danielle? Do you think you would've liked the book more if you didn't read it in audiobook form? Or was the story itself not for you?

I think it might have been the narration, but I couldn't be sure of it.
