Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Definitely! I'm working nonstop this week to make sure that I stay caught up and then going to see her will be my reward.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I never could get into that series. Hope it gets better for you though. I hate it when something doesn't grab you as much.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Glad you're enjoying your book, Elizabeth.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I'm going to start Once and for All this weekend!

message 305: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Well, I decided to DNF A Study in Scarlet. I was around 72% of the way through.

Now I'm working on a few others. I started Age of Myth a few days ago and I am loving it! So excited to keep reading Sullivan's works.

message 306: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Why'd you decide to DNF so late?
Glad the rest of your books are going well. :)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Part one and two were really different. Part one was ok, but part two just got really weird. I felt like it was too much of an attack against the LDS church. It might be something I noticed more because that is the church I belong to, but I don't like for any religion to be attacked in the books I read. Having religion and even having it not be all positive is fine, but this was pushing it too far for me. And the characters were not nearly as interesting as Watson and Sherlock and everyone left in London when the story decided to jump over to Utah. I felt like it should have explored their characters more and been more about the detective work than how the crimd came about. But I hear this is usually the least favorite of the Holmes tales, so maybe I'll try some others at some point.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Going to start This Lullaby next. :)

message 309: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments The Dessen novel? Hope you enjoy! That one isn't my favorite, but I love Dexter.

message 310: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Yes. Hope I like it as well, although the plot doesn't seem as thick as her other ones.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Did you read Once and for All?

message 312: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments It hasn't really fit my challenges, so it's probably going to be what I read on the plane as I go to guide dog school. :)

message 313: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Ah, gotcha. That's why I don't do a lot of challenges. I don't liks them dictating what I read.

I finished Age of Myth and it was amazing! I loved it. So excited to read more Sullivan.

message 314: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I saw that you really liked that one. It's always nice when you have a 5 star read.

message 315: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Definitely. It was only my second of the year, not counting rereads. I have rounded a couple of 4.5s up though.

message 316: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments It looks like have more 5's than I do because that's how I put GR books since there are no half stars.

message 317: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments It depends, sometimes I round them down.

message 318: by Kylara (new)

Kylara Jensen | 437 comments I just read Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia in about 3 hours this morning and it was so good!!!

message 319: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I've heard good things about that one. I'm not even sure what it's about. Will have to look it up!

message 320: by Kylara (new)

Kylara Jensen | 437 comments It's about this girl who is secretly a famous webcomic artist online, but her in person life is just blah. And she has anxiety. And there's all these emotions. So basically, fandom and anxiety/depression and, relationships: family, friends, creators and fans, love etc.

message 321: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Sounds really interesting. I'll have to add it and see if I can get to it soon.

message 322: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I think I'm going to DNF Unraveling. I'm just really not feeling it. :( YA in general right now is hard for me.

message 323: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I'm currently reading Centralia by Mike Dellosso. It is very good right now.

message 324: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Glad you're enjoying your book, Melanie! What's it about?

message 325: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'm reading three things right now.

The Way of Kings, which is a reread. It's my favorite novel and this is my third time with it. I'm around halfway and loving it.

Storm Front, the first Dresden Files book is pretty good so far. Urban fantasy is hard for me to get into, but I am enjoying it. I'm a little less than a third of the way in that I think.

And then I've just started Rise of Empire, the second volume in the Riyria Revelations. Really good so far.

message 326: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Over July I read the Riyria Revelations books by Michael J Sullivan and absolutely love them! I am going to start the Chronicles shortly, I think.

I just finished The Dire King (Jackaby #4) last night. I was not very impressed with it, unfortunately.

message 327: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I'm sorry you didn't like your book as much as you were hoping to. I hope that your next books are better.

message 329: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I started The Crown Tower today. It's really good so far. I like being able to find the connections with the Riyria Revelations.

message 337: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Glad you are, Jackie! That one just didn't work well for me, so I'm interested to see your final thoughts.

message 338: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I definitely will. I am only about 25% in though, so my opinion may change.

message 339: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Well I really hope you continue enjoying it. :)

message 341: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I just finished The Crown Tower and I loved it. Can't wait to get started with the next one. I don't know what I will do with myself when I run out of Michael J Sullivan books to read (which will happen very soon).

message 342: by Kylara (new)

Kylara Jensen | 437 comments I just read 3 books in a row about the FLDS cult (Warren Jeffs) and it has been crazy! and intense! and so interesting! I don't know what to read next, but I definitely need to switch gears. Escape by Carolyn Jessop Prophet's Prey My Seven-Year Investigation into Warren Jeffs and the Fundamentalist Church of Latter-Day Saints by Sam Brower The Witness Wore Red The 19th Wife Who Brought Polygamous Cult Leaders to Justice by Rebecca Musser

message 343: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'm rereading Words of Radiance right now and loving it. Third time around and it's even better than ever.

I'm listening to The Shadow of What was Lost, which is good so far. It's hard for me to listen to fantasy, but it's going pretty well.

And I'm reading His Majesty's Dragon, which I like but it's kind of forgettable. There just isn't anything that is completely grabbing me. Not sure I will continue with the series, since I hear it's kind of up and down.

message 344: by Kylara (new)

Kylara Jensen | 437 comments I LOVE the Temeraire series. You have to read at least the 2nd book. I need to re-read that series and finish it up.

message 345: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I might try the second...I just don't want to spend my reading time with books that I'm not loving.

message 346: by Kylara (new)

Kylara Jensen | 437 comments C.P. wrote: "I might try the second...I just don't want to spend my reading time with books that I'm not loving."

I hear that. But the second is a lot different from the first and you can get a better idea of how the rest of the series is going to be.

message 347: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'll probably try it within the next couple of months.

message 348: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (serenitycaptain) I have been really striking out with books this year; I've abandoned or put aside at least 4 and about half of the books that I HAVE completed have been just ok or not good at all. D:

I could really use some genre recommendations to get back into the swing of things, or some specific book suggestions (I have over 300 on my TBR that I own so there's bound to be some crossover).

message 349: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Oh no! That is never good. I will take a look at your tbr and see if I can find any. Or just give you some as well.

message 350: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I would definitely recommend fantasy since it's my favorite. Anything by Brandon Sanderson is good, but I would say try The Final Empire or Warbreaker first. If you're in a mood for YA then his Steelheart book is good. Michael J Sullivan would be a wonderful place to start as well. Either Age of Myth or Theft of Swords would be a good start.

Some other random books that I would suggest would be Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman, The False Prince by Jennifer A Nielson, Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz, any Jane Austen novel.

Let me know if you want more. :)
