This is the first one that came to mind for me, although it may not be exactly what you're looking for.

I haven't read the other books mentioned here but Stephenson's The Diamond Age: or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer would probably fit this sub-genre.

One of my favorite sci-fi books of all time, and written by the great Greg Bear, is Blood Music
