Here's what I read this week:City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2)
by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book was loads better than the first in the series; I still didn't quite enjoy this book enough to give it a five star rating, but definitely enjoyed
it more than book one. The plot is more solid, with plenty of scenes that were either filled with emotion, action-packed, or entertaining - sometimes more
than one of those at once. Also, it was wonderful to see some excellent character development, which we got to see a great deal of in this book. I look
forward to seeing what will happen in book three, and how the characters will continue to develop throughout the rest of the series.
Can’t remember if I already said this but I finished A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, which I loved! Solid 5 star read! Finished A Song Below Water yesterday, which I didn’t love but didn’t hate. Continuing to read The Joy Luck Club and I started Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky.
Finished Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky and loved it! Can't wait for book two! Going to start Little Fires Everywhere for something different and finish up The Joy Luck Club.
I finished Capturing the Devil and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer this week and was underwhelmed by both. 2-2.5 stars for both books.I've started The Stone Sky and I'm also deeply engaged in The Poisonwood Bible right now.
This week I read "City of Glass" (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare. Here's my review for it:City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3)
by Cassandra Clare
My rating:
5 of 5 stars
Excellent read! This is so far my favourite of the series. So many feels, and so much going on... i’m loving the character development, and there were
quite a few questions from the first couple of books answered in this book too. Plus, it had a wonderful ending.

Finished The Joy Luck Club and forgot how much I loved it! I decided to read If You Come Softly instead of Little Fires Everywhere just because I’m really on a YA kick (although I think I’m always on a YA kick), but I will come back to it at some point because I do want to read it.

Have you read the whole series? I'm currently almost done with book four.
Finished If You Come Softly, which was a super fast read and super sad. I think it will be a book my students will like. Going to start All American Boys and then I might do some re-reads, but we will see.
Decided to do a re-read of the Magic in Manhattan series as a palate cleanser before I keep making my way through my obnoxious TBR pile.
I've finished book four of the Mortal Instruments, and reviewed it. So here's my review:City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)
by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I enjoyed this book, but didn't love it. It was nowhere near as good as book three, and took ages for anything to actually happen. To be honest, it's only
the exxcellent last few chapters that stopped me giving this book only three stars, and if I could give half stars my actual rating would be 3.5 stars;
this book only gets four stars from me because I always round up.
Finished all the books in the Magic in Manhattan series. I started Incendiary and it’s okay. I set it aside though because I’m doing Reading Rush and I’m currently reading The Color Purple for that. Will also be reading Witchy and Emma to match the prompts.
I gave both The Poisonwood Bible and The Stone Sky 4 stars! More 4-star ratings for Shuri, Vol. 2: 24/7 Vibranium, Die, Vol. 1: Fantasy Heartbreaker, and The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother.
3.5 stars for Reticence, a great fan-servicey ending for a fun series.
I DNF'd The Fountains of Silence yesterday (which makes me wary of picking up Out of the Easy), but I started Timekeeper and Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland in the meantime, both of which are fascinating.
Finished both Witchy and The Color Purple. Loved Witchy! The Color Purple was okay. Started reading Emma and if I have time I’m going to do a re-read of TATBILB for another reading rush prompt.
Finished my re-read of TATBILB. Still re-reading Emma and I started All the Things We Never Knew, which I had problems with at first but now I’m completely invested.
Finished All the Things We Never Knew, which I ended up devouring. Going to finish Incendiary and start reading The New Jim Crow.
Finished Incendiary last night. The beginning was a little slow, but it picked up and I enjoyed it. Still re-reading Emma and also going to re-read Warcross so I can finally read Wildcard.
