Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Amber (amberm867) Any suggestions for the word "Little"? I was going to read The Kingdom of Little Wounds, but it started off so icky that I can't continue on. And the reviews make it sound like it only continues on that same grain.

And now I'm having trouble choosing. It can be anything, since it's my last and I've only used one non-YA thus far.

message 103: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) A YA title I read last year and enjoyed was Dream a Little Dream (The Silver Trilogy, #1) by Kerstin Gier . Its about a girl who can walk in people's dreams. Also, the word "Dream" will open up a LOT of books for you.

Two children's books that come to mind are A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett and Little House in the Big Woods (Little House, #1) by Laura Ingalls Wilder (or any of the Little House books really).

I think Little Women was the last book Amber read.

message 110: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 560 comments I've had so much trouble coming up with a chain that I just said screw it! I picked a book that I wanted to read Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater and then walked around the YA section of my library grabbing books off the shelf that would make a chain. I didn't even look to see what they were about! This could be interesting...

I just noticed, Christie, that one of the books I randomly grabbed was one that you read for the challenge: 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt . Strange how things like that work out!

I always love seeing how many people end up reading the same books when I do these challenges. I ended up picking that one up because I had a book with the word "days" in it on my to-read list and I was just trying to figure out another title to go with it. Ended up just looking up all of the YA titles with the word "days" that my library carried and that one was the only one that caught my fancy. I didn't find it to be all that great, but it wasn't bad and it got me to the next book in my chain. Hope you enjoy.

I haven't read this one yet, but pretty high on my "to-read" list is this: Denton Little's Deathdate

Just another possibility!

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) I've been seriously sucking at this challenge! But at least it's given me an excuse (or nudge) to catch up on the ARCs that've been piling up.

The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1) by Heidi Heilig Girl in the Shadows by Gwenda Bond A Shadow Bright and Burning (Kingdom on Fire, #1) by Jessica Cluess

Post #26 is updated. 3/6 completed. Whew.

Gremlin | 966 comments Finished #3!

The Dead and the Gone (Last Survivors, #2) by Susan Beth Pfeffer

And just as I was about to start in on #4, I was cursed by my own dang rules! I was going to read a Non-YA, Pretty Deadly, Vol. 1: The Shrike (which I'm excited to read) but then I realized it's only 120 pages long. DRAT!
Luckily, I quickly discovered that there's a Francesca Lia Block book called Pretty Dead which can fill in that space and won't mess with my chain. :)

Gabriela Hi! Sorry for such a late update but I'm still fighting to complete this challenge.

I've figured out my chain and read three of seven books so far: Living Dead Girl, Masque of the Red Death and When the Sea Is Rising Red.

Updated post #18

message 117: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberm867) I've been super busy, so I haven't had a chance to get my next book, but I'll be getting something from the library tonight. Thanks for all the suggestions! We'll see what's available, but I'll probably get a couple of them, since they all sound good!

message 118: by Cissy (new)

Cissy (kgprewitt) | 35 comments Finally finished the Challenge. It was an effort with my last two books. I only read them because they completed the chain. This is what I read:

Amber (amberm867) Finished #6: Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1) by Sara Shepard

Challenge Complete! I'm not going to loop it, but I'm going to try the Bonus round next.

Original post#47.

message 120: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) Finished my 6th The Mirk and Midnight Hour by Jane Nickerson using the word "midnight" from my previous book. Updated post #17.

message 121: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I finished # 7 with Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3) by Sarah J. Maas using the word Fire from the previous book. It has really been hard to complete this challenge as I realize that May always brings on a reading slump with the added stress and lack of time the ending the school year always brings. On top of that most of my books have been YA fantasy and there are similarities that will have me questioning plot points that I realize are from a different book. The books have been good though so I've been lucky in that regard. I am not sure if I will get to the last one to close the loop but I am ok with it if I don't.

This Shattered World (Starbound, #2) by Amie Kaufman

I'm glad you liked this book too. I'd be interested to hear from you think of the third one. I really liked it but there were a few things that bugged me.

message 126: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberm867) I've decided to use the word "Princess" for the bonus round. That being said, I've completed 2: The Princess Diaries (The Princess Diaries, #1) by Meg Cabot and Princess in the Spotlight (The Princess Diaries, #2) by Meg Cabot .

message 127: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) Finished my 8th book and completed my chain Manor of Secrets by Katherine Longshore using the word "secret(s)" from my previous book. Updated post #7.

I'm thinking of doing a mini bonus round as I have checked out two books this month that have the word "lie" in the title and have at least one more I can possibly squeeze in. I know it probably won't count toward the challenge, but I thought it might be fun to do.

Finished The Queen of Bright and Shiny Things by Ann Aguirre The Impostor Queen (The Impostor Queen, #1) by Sarah Fine Queen of Hearts (Queen of Hearts Saga #1) by Colleen Oakes The Chess Queen Enigma (Stoker & Holmes, #3) by Colleen Gleason
I have Queen (The Blackcoat Rebellion #3) by Aimee Carter out from the library so I'll probably use that one as the last title for my bonus round.

Amber (amberm867) Finished #5 and #6 on bonus round: Palace of Stone (Princess Academy, #2) by Shannon Hale (OK, this one might not count. Depending on where you look at it, sometimes it's called "Princess Academy: Palace of Stone" and sometimes just "Palace of Stone") and Princess in Love (The Princess Diaries, #3) by Meg Cabot . Updated original post# 47.

Going to try to squeeze in one more (just in case that first one doesn't count)!

Sadly, I'll have to be a stickler about this one. Princess Academy is the series name of that one, but the actual title is Palace of Stone.

Not a problem. Just more motivation to squeeze in one more!

message 144: by Gabriela (last edited Jun 29, 2016 04:15PM) (new)

Gabriela So I've been busy reading these past few weeks and finished my chain with Sea of Shadows, The Way of Shadows, I Want It That Way (New Adult) and Smart Girls Get What They Want, which closes the loop with the word 'girl'.

message 147: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments After taking a month long break from fantasy I am trying to squeeze in the last book to close my loop. Not sure if I will get about 300 more pages read by the time the challenge is over but I will try. I guess it all depends on how much the kids leave me alone tomorrow :) Some days I am putting out fires all over the place and others they are occupied and getting along well.

Right? I've got another 100 pages to finish tonight (I feel confidant I can eek that out) but it'll simply get me to 6, not closing the loop as I'd planned. Better than nothing, though! :D
