I can't remember much more about this - a girl who's been through some sort of trauma hides away on a spaceship. She finds a cupboard or something under the bridge and hides there. When she is found, she's treated given a job and there's some romance with the Captain. Have no clue if they're alien/human or what. Can't remember much else, sorry!

Part of this fits to this book: Leviathan Wakes - 2011 published (Goodreads).
Twisted dark SF story with political intrigue, and a detective straight out of the old hardboiled Noir-stories (think Dashiel Hammett, Woolrich, Chandler).
Some romance, but not as described in the request.
Filmed as a TV-series (Season 1 just ended).

Kind of sounds like the short story Holly Black had in the Monstrous Affections anthology, "Ten Rules for Being an Intergalactic Smuggler (The Successful Kind)"--a girl hides in her uncle's spaceship after the crew are attacked, then an alien they were transporting finds her and they become unlikely allies with a hint of possible romance.

I put everything I can remember, really. I guess I read it about a year ago but I don't necessarily think it was a new release. I can't recall if it was YA, or Adult, or what the cover was like, how old she was or if it was part of a series. Sorry!
