Okay, I started reading yesterday but didn't post. Here we go:
Chapters 1-10 (view spoiler)[ It's interesting that the characters know they're storybook characters. I guess the storymakers are kind of like God to them. I like all the references so far. Dorothea is irritating and spoiled, I'm guessing a big part of the story is her growing up and maturing. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 11-19 (view spoiler)[ It's cool that Kato's people are all chimeras. And Dorthea is supposed to save them, maybe? She's getting a little more tolerable, but Rexi is now pretty irritating. Can't they all just be fun to read? I do like how this is going so far. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 20-28 (view spoiler)[ geez, it seems like everyone is secretly againt Dorthea. At least she has Kato and Rexi. I'm glad Dot is maturing and treating people better. Now she needs to figure out a way to reset magic and take care of Griz and Blanc without letting herself go evil (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Hmm.. I'm sorry, I'm not going to sugarcoat it—the protagonist pisses me off. I didn't like her the moment she started talking in the first chapter. That was one of the reasons it was so hard for me to keep reading. But I'm hoping for some serious character development. I like how they're almost breaking the fourth wall but not quite. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) seeing familiar fairy tales written with a spin :)

It was a bit confuddled with the Chimera and all the fairy tale and Oz things, but still not too bad. (hide spoiler)]

I really liked the story, I think more because it was meant just to be more fun and silly without a lot of drama. More of a light-hearted adventure. I went back and forth with Rexi and I was so glad when she redeemed herself in the end. I was surprised a lot by both her betrayal - though I can't really blame her for saving herself - and Hydra being Ozma. I'd completely forgotten that part.

I agree with all of this. It was a nice step back to not have my heart torn out of my chest because of sadness or getting so involved with the characters and super heavy plots (I love those books but every once in a while..) Hydra being Ozma, right! I hope that's more in the next couple of books as well.

I found the next book and it looks like it's Robin Hood. Not sure how I feel about shifting to Rexi as the main character, but I think her identity is a fun twist.

It's definitely an interesting and....strange, jump. I did see that the third book goes back to Dorothea and she may be stuck in Kansas.

I read it earlier this year. It was really good! I'm planning to re-read it at some point.
