Do you always listen to audios? :)

I used to mix them up too, but recently I've been mostly listening. If a book is not in audio, it's taking longer to make it to the TBR.

message 102: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments So far, I've tried 4 Aliens books:
1. Not in mood so put it back in TBR
2. & 3. Didn't like the audios so I returned them and don't have the ebooks handy.
4. DNF

Not sure what else I'll try next. I rarely have so much problems with a shelf.

Anita Reads | 595 comments I'm sorry you're having such a hard time finding a book that you like. :(
I haven't read a lot of alien themed books before so I don't know if I can even recommend anything.

message 104: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments It's not as if I don't read Science Fiction. I have tons of Aliens books on my TBR! Some are just too long so I'm avoiding those.

I think I found one to read. But I'll post it when I'm done with it. :)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments The Ghost Exterminator (Karmic Consultants, #2) by Vivi Andrews
Shelf: Ghosts
4 * April 4th

Jo is a medium who sees ghosts and it able to help them "transcend." Wyatt is the business man who hires the company she works for to deal with his "ghost problem." Jo and Wyatt are complete opposites. This was laugh-out-loud hilarious in places. While, I liked Jo right off the bat, Wyatt was an uptight asshole. It took some reading to gradually like him too.
Well done, entertaining. I liked the supporting characters too. Karma is intriguing and hopefully she gets her story too. I especially liked Angelica and Teddy.
Off topic, but the the publisher of this book, Samhain Publishing, is closing. (So I went and bought some titles I've eyeing with a giftcard I got). They are still paying loyalties and rights will (gradually) be reverting back to authors. (Unlike some other publishers that have ceased operations).

Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones
Book:
Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones
Finished: 04/04/16
Rated: ★★★★

Review:
Charley Davidson is a Grim-Reaper. Not only does she see ghost and try to help them pass. She also uses her ability as a Private Investigator and sometimes help the local police department on some murder cases. Charley has grown up with problems at home, as her step mom and sister doesn't accept her for who she is.
There's also Reyes (the handsome love interest in this series), who is actually the son of Satan, and is only showing himself to Charley in ghost form as he doesn't want her to find his body. Charley makes it her mission to find his body however.
In this book while trying to search for Reyes, she's also trying to solve the mystery as a lot of people are dying, in what seems to be suicide, but evidence shows that it's not.

I really enjoy the tone in this book. It's fast-paced and has a nice dose of humor that I really enjoy. I like a lot of the sub characters like Cookie, and Angel. I had some troubles with the ending in this book. I'm not going to say too much about it, but that's why I couldn't give this book a better rating. I'll check out the next book and hopefully Charley has become wiser about what she did, but if not I'm not sure I'll be continuing the series.

Anyway, overall I enjoyed it, but the ending was stupid!

That ending made me give up on that series.

message 108: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 595 comments I'm not completely giving up. A character is allowed to make mistakes, if she also later will see it as such and learn from them, but yes, very unhappy abut that ending.

message 109: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments I can't remember what she did, I'll have to go have a look. LOL.

I'm up to #9 so it was some time ago.

message 110: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments OK, I agree it was a bad choice and she certainly hasn't repeated it. She must have been feeling desperate to save Reyes which I find understandable.

message 111: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 595 comments Sandra, I also think that's why she did it. It doesn't make it right though. Good to know she doesn't repeat it. There's hope for the series then.
It would also be really sad otherwise since I really love the dialogue and pace of the writing in these books. I can't decide if I liked it better when I read it or with the audio, so I'll have to think about that.

D.G. | 2752 comments Zeraac's Miracle (Fallon Mates, #2) by Jory Strong
Shelf #1: Aliens
Date finished/Rating: 4/5 ★★½
Review: There were some touching parts but the whole thing was so ridiculous. I understand a woman would do anything to save a sick child but how quickly she felt in "love" with those two and got used to the "two-husbands" idea was simply crazy. And the sex wasn't even that hot!

message 113: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Oh wow! It's just Tuesday? A whole day left before we get a new shelf!

I'm done with my books so I have nothing to read. Maybe I'll try to pick up something for other challenges that I know won't work here.

message 114: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 595 comments Congrats on finishing an Alien book. Sorry it was a low rated story for you.

message 115: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments At least it's out of my TBR and it was a quick read. :)

message 116: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 595 comments Yes, it's always good to look at the positives.

Btw. I won't be up when the shelf announcement will be made today, and I probably won't be on until tomorrow afternoon in my time, as I have a job interview in the morning .
Hopefully someone else will let everyone know which shelf is going to be next. I will be online as soon as possible tomorrow to check the shelf :)

Anita Reads | 595 comments I think my book will be All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #7) by Charlaine Harris I had already planned to read this one in April. So it fits.

Btw. It's hard to say how my job interview went. I think it went well, but there were a lot of other candidates who they had to interview in the coming days, and I have no idea where I stand in comparison to that. I'll probably hear back from them middle of next week.

message 127: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments That's the thing with interviews, Anita. You never know who else is out there.

I've interviewed a lot of people in the last year and we always compare people to one another.

D.G. | 2752 comments Bad Boys Do (Donovan Brothers Brewery, #2) by Victoria Dahl
Shelf #2: Guilty Pleasures
Date finished/Rating: 4/8 ★★★½
Review: I'm not crazy about older women plots (I keep imagining the guy is still hot in his 50s while she looks like his mother) but this one worked because the difference in age wasn't crazy high. I didn't feel the chemistry between them but I liked the whole family dynamics and how running a business with your family is difficult. The ex-husband was too conveniently a douche but I really liked that Olivia learned from her mistakes and went after what she wanted.

Night After Night (Seductive Nights, #1) by Lauren Blakely
Finished: 4/7/16
Rating: 3♥

Review: Clay and Julia are 'introduced' when her sister meets him in NYC and hears that he is headed to California for business. Julia owns a bar. They instantly click - both clothed and not so clothed. It was supposed to be just one night but neither of them can forget the other - even though they live a continent apart. Enter the angst part - Julia has a major secret that she can't tell anyone as she is trying to keep them out of harm's way. Clay hates lies due to his ex. Julia has a secret due to her ex. What I didn't get is Clay is a lawyer - if you're going to tell anyone about your problem - don't you think you would tell a lawyer that could possibly help you out of your predicament?? No - she keeps 'lying' and telling him to trust her..... My other issue with this - Clay hasn't even met her yet (or anyone else for that matter while doing business) and he's wishing he had brought his handcuffs with him from NYC?? You're going to meet a chick you know nothing about sexually or otherwise - why would this even cross your mind?? And then - she just happens to have a pair of handcuffs in her purse that she hasn't used at all in a year. Felt like this was just thrown in so that it could be labeled bdsm IMO. Anyway this is a one of two part book series. At some point I'll probably read #2 but I'm not running out to get it.

~Melissa~ | 1616 comments Week 2: Ghosts
Enraptured (Eternal Guardians, #4) by Elisabeth Naughton by Elisabeth Naughton

Completed 4/11/16
Rating: 4♥'s

Review: Orpheus, demon hybrid, has to save his hero brother Gryphon from the Underworld and will do anything to reach his goal. He is a selfish, manipulative bastard ....or was that just what we were led to believe. Orpheus has been in the background since book one. Skyla, a gorgeous Siren, is sent after him by her order to seduce, entrap and destroy him. I loved Orpheus's book. We get glimpses in the last book that there really is more to Orpheus than what we see. Watching (listening) to Orpheus come into his own while realizing he is a good guy and have Skyla question what she has been told by Zeus compared to what she sees. So much fun. My only issue was - I've listened to the books on audio and the voice she does for Orpheus, whiny and annoying, was totally fine in the first books as you weren't supposed to like him but then for his book - just felt wrong for the hero , lol. I'm hoping Gryphon's book is next

LOL - thanks - I just hate being 'behind'. Even though I know it's so early in the game I'm not behind. I'll try to not pick audio's as work has been crazy making it hard to finish those timely.

Guilty Pleasures
Trial by Desire (Carhart, #2) by Courtney Milan
Done April 10th 4*

Ned and Kate married young. After 3 months Ned decides to go to China to oversee family holdings there. He is gone 3 years. Of course while he is gone, life moves along. I loved what Kate took on in her spare time and I enjoyed that secondary story. I also liked how they were both faithful to each other. (I think it would have ruined this for me if they didn't).
It did get annoying that Ned wouldn't share what he felt. I didn't like that asking for help was seen as a weakness and not a strength. At least at first anyway. I liked how mental illness was portrayed (pretty sure bi-polar- that is my educated guess) in a time where it wasn't understand, nor was there any treatment (except commitment in an asylum- and history tells how deplorable conditions were in them).
A favorite quote: "It was time to start becoming the husband he could be."
