Welcome, Tauriyel!
You started with Tolkien quite early ^_^ Movies are always a bit different, which can be forgiven in some cases... I recommend reading The Hobbit, if you're interested.
One of my aliases is Taurendil, which is formed from Quenya.
'taurë' = forest
'-(e)ndil' = friend/lover
Because I like forests, I'm a forest-friend :)
FYI, Tauriel is made up similarly.
'-iel' = daughter
So it is daughter of the forest.
I have an account on DeviantArt but I haven't visited it in a loong time.

Have you guys started learning anything yet?

Hi and welcome, Silmarien :)
Have you read other literature about Tolkien's world? I'm still in the first chapters of Quenta Silmarillion... We have an exam week right now :P
I did start my Elvish studies around two years ago. But the first year or so was just looking for some web pages, that some I later figured were not Quenya or Sindarin, but their mixture and had errors. Now I know what I can trust.
Last year, I started reading the introduction to the Quenya course on Ardalambion. I completed probably two lessons last summer, one a few weeks ago, and I thought that I'll continue soon. In my opinion, the course is good and even though it has linguistic vocabulary (which I am not very aware of), it is easy to follow. I like the in-depth explanations, so that I can really learn something.
I guess I'm partly interested in the language because it was based on my mother tongue (and a couple of others). I have noticed some similarities, yes, but they still differ a lot.
I am looking forward to the discussions we will have about studying Quenya ^_^

I only know some fixed sentences and random words now.

Sounds good ^_^ You're the member with most knowledge of those things then.. My dream, or goal, is to read all of that too.
I hope we'll keep the conversation going. Do you have any idea what kind of topics I should add? Not too many, since the existing ones are not all even used right now. But if you have something in mind, please tell me! I want to improve this group as much as possible.
P.S We have a poll on the group homepage! :)
P.P.S. I made a new topic, Questions and Suggestions. Please comment there if you have any ideas. Thanks!

Anyway I like languages and have learned French, Spanish, Latin, and (obv) Swedish, but I'm not particularly interested in their advantages in real life, so there's an appeal to Quenya that transcends the fact that The Elves speak it, that is, its impracticality. I don't really want to learn to speak Quenya, just understand it as fully as possible. As of now I'll try to put some more effort in learning the language & really hope to see some discussion :)

Welcome, Amanda! (Tai voisin suoraan vain sanoa: tervetuloa!) ^_^
Great to have a new face in this group :) May I ask you how did you find us?
Are you proceeding well with the course?
I am *still* reading Silmarillion... I don't even know how it's possible considering how much I've loved everything about it. Just get your asoiafs finished and start with this wonderful book :D
Btw, there's a facebook group for chatting in Quenya. I joined it mths ago but I haven't made any comments on there, mainly because I can't write Quenya yet. I'm hoping they don't throw me away before I can.
If you know anyone who might be interested in this group, please tell them about us. We're doing this together!

I'm proceeding quite well with the course & eager to learn more vocabulary! Haha I've gotten the impression that Silmarillion takes its toll on the reader :D Slow reading is good though. You retain more information when you take your time :)
I don't really go on Facebook but what's the name of the group? If it's not a private group it'd be interesting to see how they manage conversing in Quenya !

"Cendeleparma"loxessë, mal üas tá mára nin.
(Hi! My name is Almárë and I have studied Quenya for three years. I am also in the Facebook group. I don't like it so much.)

Um hullo. I saw this group advertised on tumblr and thought I'd give it a go. :)
Soo to introduce myself: I am from Germany and speak english, danish, french and obviously german along with bits and pieces of several other languages like japanese and spanish. I started learning quenya October 2015 when as a joke I was given the book "Elvish for Beginners" in german. They didn't think I'd actually start learning it. XD
I watched the LOTR movies when I was in grade school and had thought they were pretty neat until I more recently rediscovered the whole Tolkien lore for myself. I've now read the LOTR, the Hobbit, Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales.
Aaaand I chose the name Oloriel (daughter of dreams) because I daydream A LOT and will probably continue to do so.
Oh and I started a tumblr blog a while ago where I post pictures of what I've written in tengwar. When I get bored in university I'll start doodeling in tengwar.
Hope to get along and learn quenya together.

I just often use the diereses for vowels other than ë. I always forget for the combination ië though. Doesn't change anything.
Yuhtan i tehtar an in exë ómar. Mal üan enyalë illumë caritas an i sampanë ië.
(Lit: I use the diacritics for the other vowels. But I don't always remember to do it for the combination ië.)

Thank you! I got in trouble so often for dreaming. Seemed fitting. :D
I don't, but it is possible to look at my tengwar writings even if you don't have a tumblr account:

soooo first I'll introduce myself;
my name is Rachel and I live in Israel, although I'm actually Canadian.
I'm 14 and fluently speak 3 languages (French being my first language, Hebrew and English).
i was first introduced to the Tolkien world by my brothers who are wayyy older than me (16 and 15 years between me and my brothers) who showed me the LOTR movies at the age of 5.
a few years ago I read The Hobbit and i read LOTR this year. I am also currently reading The Silmarilion and have Unfinished Tales waiting on my book shelf.
a few months ago i decided to study Quenya as I found it very interesting and amazing that a person actually created different languages and used them in books.
up until now I've been doing pretty good downloading a Quenya-English dictionary and purchasing a Quenya Workbook by Ambar Eldaron but it still is pretty hard to learn a language with no one to practice with. i was so happy to find a group that is interested in learning this language like me and even happier to see that it is new and therefore active.
i hope to be able to get better thanks to this group and meet people who are a fascinated by J.R.R. Tolkien as me.
thank you for starting this group and good luck to all of us studying this amazing piece of Tolkien's world!!

(Hello, welcome to this little group of Quenya learners.)

Hello, mates and buddies! I hope you're doing fine with your studies. I've been busy at work. I'm soon leaving to a camping sort of place for a couple of days, during which I might not be able to come here. Anyway, you can continue the discussions ^_^ Hopefully we can get some real thing going soon after!
Keep up the motivation and joy of learning! Namárië!

I am a huge huge fan of Tolkien and his works. I am currently a student and I too am a huge fan of equines. I am also taking riding lessons at the moment. I am a writer, i write. fantasy and romance are my strongest.
I absolutely love the Lord of The Rings trilogy and The Hobbit as well and i really hope that there would be more of such films in the near future.

I know what you mean. XD My brother is studying graphic design and has to do a lot of calligraphy and he gave me quite a few pointers on how to do it properly. Then you just have to practice.

Hi, my name is Caleb, but for the sake of the internet I usually go by Cal. I just recently graduated from high school to find my days full of free time that's hard to fill with variable forms of entertainment until I've saved up enough for college. I grew up reading fantasy books and playing similar games and only just recently stumbled across the knowledge that one of the most famous book series of 'relative' closeness to our generation held learnable languages that I couldn't help but give one a try. I currently know absolutely NOTHING of Quenya as a language as I've only read a few of Tolkien's works, and even then several years ago, so I don't remember much. I'm also not much with languages after the train wreck of a trial my Spanish class was; Therefore, I'd like to apologize for my essential uselessness when it comes to joining this group.
All that said, I'm so glad I managed to find this website. I figured it would be so much easier, not to mention more fun, to study such a language in a group. I suppose I'll begin with the reading of the Silmarillion, as per instructions of the already helpful group rules list, as well as some other works. I've also made a list of hyperlinks to help me translate and study English to Quenya as well as study the written form of language, which is far more complex than imagined.
Again, it's a pleasure to be able to join such an open group when I figured there wouldn't even be an active one left on the whole of the internet. I hope to learn much and eventually contribute to other learners. -sorry for text block

Hi, Cal! It's good you decided to join our little group. Welcome ^_^
I might know a bit more Quenya than you, maybe, but my knowledge is not very broad either. I hope we'll do something together to improve all our members' language skills.
What do you mean with the following: "one of the most famous book series of 'relative' closeness to our generation"?
You won't regret reading The Silm. The stories will explain things you've wondered and even more things you've never thought of. I can't force anyone read it but it's in the rules because it is recommendable.
We are really just starting here, since nothing big has been arranged. Please take a look at the rest of the discussions and see if you'll come up with a suggestion.
Thanks, and hopefully you'll enjoy spending time here!

Hello, Alex! Welcome to our group!
There are several Quenya courses on the internet and none of them are made by us. You are free to use any course that you find suitable.
I myself will be busy until this summer since I have my final exams. But I'll try to visit here now and then. And I hope I can be more active after the exams.
Hopefully you'll enjoy this group even though there's not much happening yet. Share your ideas so we can grow! :)

Anyone willing to become a mod of this group? I'd like to have a colleague here :) Please send me a message as soon as possible if you are interested!
Thanks.
Thanks.

The Silmarillion (other topics)
Tales from the Perilous Realm (other topics)
Let me introduce myself. I am a young girl/woman from the northern lands in Europe. My mother tongue is Finnish. I also speak some Swedish and understand a few others, such as German and Norwegian. I am very interested in languages, as you can see, and Quenya is only one of those that I want to learn. I translated my title *Cuilewendë* (life-maiden) from my second name.
The first book I ever read by Tolkien was The Hobbit when I was around 10-12 years old. It didn't have much of an impact on me then. Later in my mid-teens after I had read The Lord of the Rings I became more interested in these characters and the fascinating world. Now, in March 2016, I am reading The Silmarillion. I've also read Tales from the Perilous Realm with Farmer Giles of Ham, Roverandom, Leaf by Niggle, Adventures of Tom Bombadil plus some other poems, the Smith of Wootton Major, and Tolkien's essay On Fairy-Stories. I am on my way on educating me more on the history and cultures of Arda.
See you around and please leave something about yourself for others! Namárië, meldonyar!
