Kristal wrote: "The strangest thing that you have written?"I have a NA manuscript about a young woman who gets accepted to a college she didn't apply for only to arrive and realize her parents are in on a ploy with the government to change her into the perfect daughter. It's very Twilight Zone meets Disturbing Behavior. I love it but I haven't decided if I'll self-publish or try to submit to traditional publishers. :)
Andie wrote: "Thank you for hanging out with us :)What do you do when you get writer's block?"
Thank y'all for popping in!! So far I haven't had the traditional version of writer's block but I do have what I call Writer's ADD where I should be working on one project but can't stop thinking about another one! Sometimes if I don't feel like writing when I should be I will make a playlist for a book on Spotify or an inspiration board on Pinterest. :)
Betul wrote: "Hi Caisey!!What are the hardest and easiest scenes to write?"
Hi! Awesome question! So far the fight/heartbreaking scenes are the hardest to write. In Girl on Tour (Kylie Ryas #2) there was a scene that I put off writing forever because it was so upsetting to think about!
The easiest scenes for me are either the meet cutes (first meetings) scenes or the steamy ones. I love finally getting to the pay off for all the angsty build up!
Crystal wrote: "Hi Caisey,Who is one of your favorite authors that you have to read?"
I have several so this is a tough one! A few I auto buy everything they write would be Candis Terry, Rachel Gibson, and Tessa Bailey.
Audrey wrote: "Hi Caisey! What's your favourite book of all time?"Usually my favorite romance novel is whatever I'm reading at the time. ;) My favorite classic novel though is Les Misérables by Victor Hugo and I read it every Christmas break. I get something different out of it every time I read it!
Hi! Have you ever thought about writing in other genres, like pnr, fantasy, or romantic suspense? Thank you!
I absolutely love the Neon Dreams series. Do you have any plans for spinoffs? And what was your inspiration for this series?
What's your favorite scene in Leaving Amarillo? Why write about a band? Why do you find stories about bands/music interesting to write about? Are characters from Leaving Amarillo feautered in the whole Neon Dreams series? Thank you for this Q&A session, Caisey!
Gina wrote: "Who's your favorite book boyfriend?"This is a trick question! ;) I really don't have one particular favorite (I'm kind of slutty about book boyfriends!) Usually I fall in love with the one I'm reading or writing at the time! <3
Laurice Joy wrote: "Who is your favorite author?"I truly don't have a favorite, but I do have a handful that I auto buy everything they put out! Candis Terry, Rachel Gibson, and Tessa Bailey are some of my favorite romance authors. I also enjoy Jennifer Echols, Maggie Stiefvater (I possibly just butchered her last name), Ally Condie, and several other YA authors.
Ashley wrote: "Hi! Have you ever thought about writing in other genres, like pnr, fantasy, or romantic suspense? Thank you!"Hi! Fabulous question! I do love romantic suspense and have a dark romantic suspense out on submission right now! :)
2kasmom wrote: "Do you write to music? Do you make playlists for any of your books?"If I am working with an outline I usually have Sam Smith, The Civil Wars, or something similar playing in the background. :) If it's something new I'm pulling from inside my head, I keep it quiet so I can hear all the voices, ;) I make playlists for all of my books! They can be found on Spotify!
LaDonna wrote: "I absolutely love the Neon Dreams series. Do you have any plans for spinoffs? And what was your inspiration for this series?"Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I do! Both Afton Tate and Jaggerd McKinley have stories that I may put out there one day. Afton's is currently called Finding Houston and is in progress! A band I saw in Nashville at a bar called Crossroads was my inspiration. They were young and attractive and had tons of chemistry and a female fiddle player. :)
Nicole wrote: "Do you do research for your books?"I do! Sometimes I get lucky and it can be done online but luckily my bother is a musician and I get some behind the scenes info and opportunities through him. That insider info has helped a great deal with both the Kylie Ryans and the Neon Dreams series. I also do creeper things like stalk musicians online to see what kinds of issues they deal with all in the name of making the stories more authentic of course. ;)
Tanja wrote: "What's your favorite scene in Leaving Amarillo? Why write about a band? Why do you find stories about bands/music interesting to write about? Are characters from Leaving Amarillo feautered in the w..."My favorite scene in Leaving Amarillo is probably the entire car scene from when Gavin picks Dixie up outside of her date with Afton until they arrive to pick up his mom. It's the first time Gavin is in a situation where he truly can't escape his feelings for her and she's not even fully aware of the effect she's having on him. It was fun to write so I hope it was fun to read!
I love writing about bands, musicians, dreamers, etc because to me it raises the stakes a little. There's more to it than just their relationship, but also a shared goal or dream that matters so much to them. I think musicians are such talented passionate people and they make great complex characters! And yes, you will see all the characters in the series across all three novels in the series. The series itself is about the arc of the band, so it's almost a character all on its own.
Hello Miss Caisey, When might the next installment of the Broken Heartland series be makin' an appearance? My anxiousness is gettin' the better of me... :-) Thank you!
Dina wrote: "Hi Caisey! Which one of your books did you have the most fun writing?"I have fun writing all of them! I also beat my head against the wall sometimes too! Girl with Guitar might have been the most "fun" because when I wrote the first draft I was just entertaining myself and had no clue I'd ever publish it! (I didn't even know what self-publishing was back then!)
Taylor wrote: "Hello Miss Caisey, When might the next installment of the Broken Heartland series be makin' an appearance? My anxiousness is gettin' the better of me... :-) Thank you!":) I'm so glad you're enjoying the series! We are planning to finish the last book in the series this summer and release in the fall. Fingers crossed!
Brenna wrote: "Who are your go-to authors? Ones that you one click without even reading a blurb?"Typically Candis Terry, Rachel Gibson, Tessa Bailey, and Monica Murphy. :)
J. wrote: "If you could be any book character for a day, who would you choose and why?"Oh my! This is tough! I'd like to say Katniss Everdeen or someone really brave and adventurous, but I might not live through the day! I'd probably be a Jane Austen or one of the Bronte sister's characters just so I could live during that time period for one day. :)
Irma wrote: "Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?"I've done both. If I'm writing on a deadline for a publisher I use an outline because you have to submit an outline-style synopsis for proposing a novel. My self-pubbed novels are more seat of my pants. I've found that even when using an outline or plot points, sometimes my characters go astray!
Cassie wrote: "What is your "must have" when you are writing?"Caffeine! Music! Snacks! And at least 4+ hours of solid non-interruped alone time! :)
