SOLVED. YA: this is a romance/suspense book I read when I was younger between 1991-1999 [s]

One one the main characters is a 16-18 year old boy named Pen. He is friends with a boy named Stephan or Steven and girlfriend don't remember. Pen hooks up with a new girl and she (I think has dreams) about an accident/murder of one of there friends that is missing. this new girl writes diaries that she writes in her own special code. Finds out she was pushed off a cliff and buried in the forest and flooding washes up her body and then Steven tries to kill Pen and his girlfriend

read this a long time ago I believe it's a three part series and that's as much as I remember and would really like to read it again but I can't remember name or author any help would be greatly appreciated
