As for your website, the book cover looks A M A Z I N G but dark backgrounds are a mark of the novice. My website also started out dark, but it just looks so much more professional with a lighter/white background.
I'd also go with a sans serif font for the headers, maybe something like League Gothic (https://www.theleagueofmoveabletype.c...).
Check out Gentium Basic for a possible secondary font (https://www.google.com/fonts/specimen...), or if you are set on using serif fonts for both, this one could be a header font (maybe).

Josephine Slab is sort of 1930's-esque: https://www.google.com/fonts/specimen...

I don't remember whom I've told or not told ... it wasn't a secret, but I guess I never actually came out and announced it either.I'm going to start fiddling around with lighter backgrounds now. I worry that the book cover won't stand out, it being white, but there might be ways around that.

I guess I don't need to be excited at this point but TOO BAD. Historical murder mysteries are my favorite and I'M EXCITED!
I'm just learning CSS as I go now. I'm finding it so much better than the old HTML code ... but it still means a lot of experimenting and referencing. And the Gentium Basic font is awesome.

Updated again, to include a "Reader's Guide to Inkshares". Because it's the *readers* we want to attract, right?I haven't been able to get as detailed as I would like on the order process. If anyone has helped someone through recently, please let me know what happens after the bit with the credit card information.

Hey Christopher, the process for new readers is:1. Enter email address
2. Credit card details
3. Shipping address (if physical copy)
4. "Order confirmed!" screen.
Basically it's identical to the process of ordering with credits, just with the CC screen in the middle.
I included some info about Inkshares' payment platform on my own site's FAQ page (friendsonpolitics.com). If any text there would help your guide, feel more than welcome to borrow from it as needed.

Personally I liked the black background better than white, I am using black on mine. Jon D books tried to keep it basic and simple so people won't stray from pre ordering... Again not sure it looks amazingly professional but it'll do for now.

But everyone has their own tastes, so if you like a dark background, use it.
Just keep in mind that you are designing it for your visitors, not really for you.
So readability and ease of use across multiple platforms and devices is key.
Notice that the VAST majority of professionally designed websites employ a white or light background - there are good reasons for that! Go against that sensible standard at your own peril.
Can anyone show me a "Major" website that doesn't have a light background?
Joni: Thanks. I think your cover is pretty good as it is. I find the green around the crown of Big Ben to be a little bit distracting (maybe the title should be moved a little bit up and away from it, or maybe the green should be dimmed down a little?) and maybe the title text comes too close to the edge of the cover for me ... but those are all a very minor issues. It's still good.I generally prefer black or nearly-black backgrounds, too, which is why my original site was a dark charcoal-grey. But if the public prefers dark-on-light, that's what I'll give them ... I will say that working on a lighter background has enabled me to use a dark blood-red for the links, which I wasn't able to do before, and that kind of unifies the site design with the book cover design a bit.
The TVtropes site gives the option of dark-on-light (the default) or light-on-dark, and I always switch to light-on-dark. I think my preference for light-on-dark stems from some idea (possible erroneous) that having fewer lighted pixels would be cheaper from an energy standpoint and easier on my screen.
Sounds ok, I just wouldn't call everyone with dark background a novice like Cara did...RF - your website looks great. One small thing - literally - the text below was a bit too small for me , maybe FONT=+1 would be better?
Chris thanks for the cover feedback - I agree with both but I can't edit Deos' picture and the wolf fonts moved to the edge in an attempt to enlarge it.. I guess anyways Inkshares will design their own if I ever make the grade.
Regardless - Regarding your comments on my chapters/typos, just to say that a friend who's an editor proof read chapter 10, and now it's amended. You were right I should have - at least when chapter 10 is concerned - been more vigilant before uploading it so raw. Cheers.
