Lisa | 3 comments Hi All,

I have a friend at work named Nyleptha. I asked her the origin of her name and she said that her mother's friend read a book once and she thought the character Nyleptha had such a beautiful name.

I did a quick search and only found one literary reference to that name, the book Allan Quatermain. My friend is leaving and I'd like to see if I could purchase this book for her, but before I do, I ask the following. Is anyone familiar with this literary character and are there any other novels out there with that name (even if unrelated)? If anyone has actually read the above novel, is Nyleptha a good or bad character? Just curious.

Thank you!

And this is the one for the series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Q...

It was also made into I think two films. Definitely one.

Nyleptha is one of the "good" characters in this book. However, you do need to keep in mind that it was written back around the turn of the century (the TWENTIETH century, that is) so you are definitely going to have to deal with mindsets that do not match our current one. But Haggard writes a ripping good adventure story.

For those who haven't heard of him--he's also the one who wrote King Solomon's Mines and She both of which have been made into movies multiple times. (I counted once, and there are at least 7 versions of King Solomon's Mines in the English language. And that's just the ones that I remember off the top of my head.)
