SOLVED. Boy and His Grandfather Win the Lottery [s]

I read this book in the mid-70s when I was around 10 years old. It was written for middle school children. My sense is that it was published in the 1940s or 1950s, or at least takes place around then. It starts with a boy of about 10 who lives with his grandparents, I think, in a city. His grandfather had purchased a lottery ticket and shares the ticket with the boy. They win a lot of money in the lottery. But they have a hard time keeping the money and enjoying their winnings due to the grandmother's devout and pious lifestyle. They hatch a series of plans to get around this, often with hilarious results. In one chapter, the grandfather finds an old sock and stuffs it with a substantial amount of money -- $1,000 maybe -- and then goes home and tells his wife that while he was out, he found an old sock full of money. Instead of keeping it, his wife insists that he report the "missing" money to the police. A homeless person ends up claiming the money because he was in possession of the sock's mate. Finally, the grandfather takes up part-time residence in a different apartment, disguises himself, and hires his wife as his cleaning lady. He pays her handsomely and I think she feels somewhat guilty about his generosity, but in the end it's the solution that works because she earns the money through legitimate means and she never realizes her husband's disguise.

I don't remember the title of this book or the author, let alone the cover art. I just remember the details give here, plus I remember enjoying the book and thinking it was funny. Help, please?
