Katelyn (katelynpreece) | 532 comments I'm asking this question because if you've read No Mercy Samia comes off as a complete badass. Especially when she does this agility course type thing.

However Valerius when he first sees Tabitha fight is amazed because even the Amazons aren't as well trained as her according to him. That was his first impression.

But Samia is an amazon, and she's one of the dogs of war...I mean did Valerius forget about Samia when he called Tabitha skilled? Or is Tabitha really that skilled?

Was Valerius referring to how good the amazons were when they were humas compared to Tabitha? Or is he actually saying that Tabitha is more skilled than the Amazonian dark hunters who have been training and fighting daimons for thousands of years?

Please tell me what you think.

Slick | 456 comments Samia, hands down. Grandaughter of a war god, trained from birth and has centuries worth of experience fighting Daemons, Demons and wars and is accounted one of THE BEST Dark Hunters. A dog of war.

I think Tabitha is skilled and she and the Devereaux's appear to be some of SK's favorites but she can't compare.

Katelyn (katelynpreece) | 532 comments So you think Valerius is saying that Valerius is simply giving her a very high compliment by comparing her to the amazons. but isn't necessarily saying she's as strong as them?

message 4: by Slick (new)

Slick | 456 comments Im saying she's as good, most likely as good as an amazon most likely better but not as good as Samia.

message 5: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn (katelynpreece) | 532 comments Would it be because Samia was the Amazonian queen?

I have a theory of Tabitha's combat ability in terms of martial arts belts.

Okay lets assume a few premises

1) She trains in combat, cardio, and strength training for 120 minutes each day. This is a reasonable demand on somebody who was attacked by daimons and was desperate to learn how to defend herself. Also Valerius said she was better trained than the amazons (paraphrased).

2) She's been training this way ever since she got attacked by daimons at age 13.

3) When Valerius first saw her she was 29. That is 16 years of training.

4) Lets also assume that because she also trained in strength and cardio, only 40 minutes of her time actually went into mastering strikes and blocks and other sorts of martial arts type moves.

5) Now in Karate and 2 and a half hours per week you can get a black belt in 5 years.

6) Lets say she practices weapon work for 40 minutes per day - which is 280 minutes a week - which means she achieves each belt 1.8 times faster than someone who only puts in 150 minutes a week.

7) So here are the calculations

5 years for black belt but it took Tabby 2.7 years instead
2 years for 2nd degree black belt but it took Tabby 1.1 years

That's 3.8 years in total

3 years for 3rd degree black belt but it took Tabby 1.6 years

that's 5.4 years in total

4 years for 4th degree black belt but it took Tabby 2.2 years

That's 7.6 years total

5 years for a 5th degree black belt but it took Tabby 2.7 years.

That's 10.13 years total

6 years for 6th degree black belt but it took Tabby 3.3 years

That's 13.6 years total

7 years for a 7th degree black belt but it took Tabby 3.8 years

That 's 17.4 years total...

So that means Tabitha would be between a 6th degree and 7th degree black belt.

NOW LETS ASSUME SHE COULD ONLY PUT IN 30 MINUTES PER DAY

Now only 10 minutes went into perfecting her fighting style however the rest was put into cardio and training...so lets assume 10 minutes per day.

That's 70 minutes per week. That means it would take her 2.142 times longer than someone who trains in a 2.5 hour a week class.

So black belt 5 * 2.412 = 10.71

2nd degree black belt = 4. 824

In total that would be 15.535

So she's be a second degree black belt at minimum.

Not to mention she actually fights daimons so she's learned the sorts of things you can really only learn from experience. So when it comes to daimons she might even be more talented than someone who has a higher black belt but isn't experienced with fighting daimons with speed, strength, and psychic abilities.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Honestly unless some of the special stuff who doo that the Dev clan(yea I have the worst time spelling their last name all the time, so I shortened it to that) do, to bring out something just as otherworldly in Tabitha's fighting skills, then I don't think she would win against Samia in the least.

I mean have to consider ancient Amazonian chick right, re-born from some Godly magicks(even came from a Godly line herself, thanks for the reminder on that Slick, ;) ), no human could withstand that! Add to that her biological make up is different too I would imagine than a modern woman's of today. Sure they share boobs and some lady parts. But being from a much different time, I'm sure Samia is packing somewhat thicker and heavier bone structure. Her musculature is probably different too. And I won't even touch on the breaking bad training she had to learn back in the day. May not be as refined as what Tabby knows, but still could whoop ass like nobody's business.

So saying all that and even though I love Tabby, lets just be thankful that we won't see that head to head match. Cause it would be a Flawless Victory for Samia all day long.

Ray (warrior of randomness) XP | 1837 comments Samia would win hands down.

She is over five thousand years old . She has had all that time to perfect her skills. She is a natural born warrior

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Amen, Dhfan. =)

I'd say that Val's opinion of Tabby is biased, since he's probably not that fond of Amazons to begin with seeing as how they're Greek. And it's possible that Val had never met Samia before he met Tabby.

message 9: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Thanks Charlotte.

And so true as well about his history with the Amazons. And in general before she stabbed him, to him she was probably attractive and kick butt. Like a regular chick or something being able to fight.

message 10: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn (katelynpreece) | 532 comments So it's most likely Val was giving Tabby a very deep compliment, but it was more metaphorical?

message 11: by Slick (new)

Slick | 456 comments I think he meant she was a skilled fighter for our time but i don't think she could match Samia.

message 12: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn (katelynpreece) | 532 comments Ah so she'd be like a modern day Amazon ;) ?

message 13: by Slick (new)

Slick | 456 comments Pretty much!! :)

You got it! And then she stabbed him and he married her anyway, LOL. Wouldn't that be awesome if we could do something like that in real life. "He didn't sweep me off my feet, I swept him off his. Literally." ;)

message 15: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn (katelynpreece) | 532 comments Hahaha nice joke Dhfan ^_^

message 16: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Does make the story of how we met a whole lot more interesting to say the least. And for a guy to be man enough to be like "yep, that's the one for me right there! Move over Jared, I'm getting my woman some diamond encrusted brass knuckles."

And come to think of it. Val and Tabby truly make for an awesome couple cause he was man enough to handle ALL the woman that she was. That Eric dude, he just gave in way too fast and couldn't handle and accept her for who she was I think. So she wound up with the right guy in my opinion.

message 17: by Slick (new)

Slick | 456 comments I dunno wasn't Eric with her for like 10+ years though? He's the goth guy in CON if im remembering right. He didn't seem like a bad guy, i just think he got tired of parading around looking for Daimons, i believe she was the one who went about slashing tires haha

message 18: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments True Eric wasn't a bad guy. But the thing was he was also a secret squire on the low cause I think it was said in one of the books that he had married some other squire chick that wasn't quite like Tabitha at all?

And also mostly he was trying to keep her and her friends safe when they were out hunting the vamps and didn't know the real score back in Night Pleasures?

So yea although he wasn't a total turd per se. I think he was kind of putting on a bit when they were dating and eventually he couldn't hang for long. Which kind of sucks cause Tabby underneath it all is a true ride or die kind of person. Don't find those very often these days.

message 19: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn (katelynpreece) | 532 comments I think the reason Tabitha doesn't overwhelm Valerius, is because he's one of those really hard to reach people. I don't know how to explain it but he's so stodgy that it takes someone as passionate and as excited as Tabitha to bring him from stodgy to normal.

However when it comes to Eric. Eric isn't stodgy so Eric goes from normal to exhausted.

Ugh I don't know if I'm explaining myself right.

But because Valerius is so uptight, so serious, and so withdrawn...He is like 0 degrees on the thermometer. So homicidal lava girl Tabby brings his thermometer up to a normal level.

However Eric was already fairly warm because he's not as uptight as Valerius, and so when you add Tabitha's heat to somebody already warm, of course the heat is going to be hard to handle.

I don't mean Val is cold as in cold-hearted kind of way. He's actually kind. He's just cold in a isn't willing to laugh or enjoy himself kind of way, he isn't even willing to relax...that's why he needs Tabitha. She brings joy, and is so open and carefree, and so courageous that it's hard not to relax around her.

However Val's father was cold hearted, and his grandfather. Honestly the people of Pompeii should have thrown them into their volcano, that way the lava would have frozen over; and the city wouldn't have been destroyed.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I read you loud and clear Kat. And that is why I said what I did about Amanda and Tabby picking their respective guys. Heck even their own sister Selena said the same thing. They need someone to balance them out cause they were already a natural balance for each other as siblings. But in life mates needed something of the same.

Shari-amor | 5275 comments The both of these posts explain Tabby and Valley, Amanda and Kyrian perfectly. They definitely balance each other

message 22: by Adam (new)

Adam (doward) | 165 comments See I thing this question is brilliant! I love both characters and it really give us something thing to think about. Val has probably got first hand knowledge I of the Amazons, as it was Rome that destroyed them, yes i think it was very high compliment but as we all know our favourite Roman General isn't the kind of person to give a compliment based on anything other then truth. Tabby is probably better then the Amazon he himself fought. However, they were Amazons from 2,000 years ago, back when Val was human, and Sam is an Amazon from 5,000 years ago. When Rome was not yet a twinkle in his father's eyes. Sam is a fighting machine, having been trained for years before her death. I have to give the fight to Samia, even if it is begrudgingly.
