Kat I read this children's book in the mid-80's, so it must be at least 25+ years old.

All I remember is that the protagonist(s) become friends with children who at some point hide under their cloaks/capes and thus become unnoticable. I think they don't really become invisible, but rather they blend into their surroundings (I think it was outdoors / in nature).

The only other thing I remember is that in order to visit these other kids' home they had to swim (maybe even dive) through water.

That's all I've got.

I used to think that I knew the name of the book, but recently discovered that the title I "remembered" was a completely different book that I probably read at the same time.

Kat Hmmmm, the moor rings a half-forgotten bell.... thank you for the input!

I'll need to get a copy of that and read it in order to find out whether it is the right book, I hope it is! I shall report back :)

Kat I think it might be!

The German title for the book is "The Curse of the Ring" which rang a bell, and when I looked it up on amazon marketplace the cover picture looked faintly familiar.

Have ordered a copy, am really excited to read it now.

90% sure it is the right book.

Can't believe you came up with a title based on what little information I had!

Kat Andy, my German copy of the book arrived, and it was Der Fluch des Ringes - the translations of Power of Three.

Thank you so much, I'm still bowled over by the fact that you guessed it from this little info, and so fast.

*happy face*

Andy | 2124 comments Great. I couldn't tell you what triggered my memory of "Power of Three" from your description, but I'm glad I was right.
