1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?

I love to run. It's my passion. I used to run half marathons a lot and haven't in a few years, but I still enjoy running.

I play piano. I have for about 20 years now. I actually used to teach kids, but when I moved I stopped doing that. I think I will teach again someday. I absolutely loved doing it.

I also like to play video games. We have a few consoles (mostly old school) and I really want to build my own gaming PC!

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?

My absolute favorite thing to do (perfect world) is to go to a water park. We try to go to one about an hour away every year or so. It's SO much fun!

Besides that... traveling! I love seeing other places.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?

Realistically, homework. Or playing board games with the kiddos. But ideally... SLEEPING! I don't sleep well.

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?

See above answer. ;) Well, there's plenty of things I don't get to do often enough because of my schedule and also money doesn't grow on trees lol. For this, I'd say spending time with my SO's kids. Between work and school, some days I only see them for an hour. Especially if I'm home from school at 3 and working at 4. I miss them.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?

I work about 30 hours a week, go to school full-time, and have small step-children. Right now I'm on spring break, though. ;)

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
Video games! Mainly video games. I also enjoy watching sports (football & baseball), coloring, writing to my penpals, swapping on Swap-Bot, and though I can't go anymore ~ Theme Parks, Amusement Parks & Roller Coasters.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Play video games! (Awesome Corrine that you want to build a gaming PC!) I built my gaming PC just over a year ago and he's so awesome! We also have a PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox360, though really only the PS3 gets played besides the PC. We want a PS4 and aim to get one once we know the date for Kingdom Hearts 3, because that is the main reason we'd have to get one.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Right now, I'd be playing Skyrim. I have been ignoring Kanji, since I took the photos of her for my RPG game. :) I haven't been back to Skyrim since the read-a-thon started. I think I need to go play for a bit. :)

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Now that we moved to NC, theme parks / amusement parks are a thing of the past. :( I miss just heading out to the parks to ride a ride or people watch. 2011 was the last time we got to go to a park (Universal & IOA to go see HP) and we miss it. If we had a car, we would have gone to Carowinds by now. I've been twice and wanna take my Hubby.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Just money / lack of car. Anything here at the house I wanna do (video games) I can do pretty much 24/7. My Hubby works and I don't, so I have a lot of time to do what I want, there's just not enough hours in the day. :) But I love getting out and doing things, and the lack of a car/money keeps me stuck here. I've only been out of town 2 times in 3.5 years. We hope to take the car service (no bus, it's a tiny tiny town, but they have a car service) in 2 weeks to Walmart.

Cait S | 2825 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
I mentioned video games already which is the major one. But besides that I love to cook and bake, try out new recipes with both. I also really love my dogs. ...I really, really love my dogs. Like if I could save my Golden Retriever or my husband, I would have a hard time deciding.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Mmmm... This is tough, I really would choose reading over just about anything else. But I suppose I would say going to the movies. I go about once a week on my own to just unwind for a while and I really enjoy that.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Doing the parenting! The raising of the children.

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Pretty much everything that involves leaving the house haha My husband recently had to move about 3 hours away for work for the next 6 months (gogo Navy life) and so I'm on my own with all the littles. I don't get out much.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Mainly? Being married to the Navy. We love our military life and wouldn't change it but it does make schedules and free time difficult.

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
Cooking, Baking, Crafts (knitting, crochet, decoupage, cross stitch... whatever gets my fancy), I used to love going to the gym - I like group classes, body pump, body combat and body balance are my absolute favs. I also enjoy walking/hiking... can't run for the life of me, but I used to do the mini-marathons when they allowed for the walking version. Oh and NBRC, that's a much loved, much time consuming hobby.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
I miss body combat soooooo much. I also used to play games, and now I'm into knitting - always have to be doing something with my hands.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Either relaxing with my yarn, my knitting or crochet project, the TV on... or with my kitty, or spending some quality time with my 3 yo niece.

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Going to the gym. Doing something outdoors. Getting my niece and sister and go nuts on an amusement park or something equally fun.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Money. Waaaaaaaaaay too many time spent on goodreads too. Not having a kitchen big enough to put there all the little appliances I would have. And a room for the crafting of the month (I would need a lot of space since I'm mastering the art of starting a LOT or projects at once and keep them forever unfinished).

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
I run, by far my favorite way to exercise. I also sing in a choir, and will occasionally play the piano.
2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Hm, same as above. Running and singing. Usually not at the same time. :)
3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
I'm usually either at work or at choir practice. I don't get a ton of spare time between those...
4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
I used to go wine tasting on weekends a lot! Work has gotten in the way of that recently.
5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Work. Definitely. Takes up way too much time!

Ahhhh!!! I'm so excited for the FFVII remake. Everyone in my house wants a PS4 so badly... me for KH3, SO for FFVII, and well, the kids just like shiny new stuff. lol

Never been to Carowinds, although I was in SC for a few years and probably should have made the trip up there on a long weekend! We're near Dollywood.

@Cait

Hooyah! :)
I'm a USMC vet as is my SO. We know ALL about that military life moving... How many kids do you have? How old?

@Sonia

I've been meaning to get into crocheting! Where do you START!? I need to get to the gym, too... group classes are so fun! :)

I hear you on the projects thing..............

Cait S | 2825 comments @Corinne

That's awesome! My brother in law is a USMC vet, my father in law is retired Army, so we're kind of across the board with the military stuff here. We're heading to our next duty station in August, which I'm really looking forward to...as long as they have a good library :D

I have 2 boys. My oldest is 7 and my youngest is 4. We're hoping for another at our next station. A kid on every coast, you know? :P

ME TOO!!!! I'm probably will eat sandwiches for 2 months, but when that baby comes out, PS4 will be mine....miiiiiine.

I've been meaning to get into crocheting! Where do you START!?
Youtube. At least that's how I taught myself. Chose a project you wanna try, then search for video tutorials about that stitch/technique/whatever.

Ravelry.com is a good place to search for patterns/projects. Some are paid, but you can find a lot of free patterns there too.

I started with hats and mittens for my niece, then upgraded from there. I'm making her some crochet baskets for her toys, and next will try this knitted doll

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 194 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?

The number one thing I do when I am not reading is writing, but that feels sort of related. I also scrapbook, watch TV (shocker), go crazy over the football and baseball and shop. As far as interests go, I like pretty much all things nerd- Doctor Who, Sherlock, Harry Potter, Marvel, DC...you name it, I probably have an interest in it.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?

Write. And when not writing, I like do things outside of my house, either in my mind (TV/Movies) or actually (shopping).

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?

Either things I need to do- clean the house, helping the girls with homework, cooking, etc. OR watching Netflix/TV or getting the heck out of my house. I am a very simple creature. I pretty much do the same things unless we are going on vacation or something. This summer, I want to get a beginner's piano book so that my girls and I can learn how to play the keyboard that my father-in-law gave to us.

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?

Travel! If I had the money and the time, I would be traveling all over the place. I have never been to New York and want to badly. Also, just about every country in Europe, Egypt, Japan- alas, the only country I have been to outside of the USA is Canada.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?

I have two kids and a husband and they can keep me pretty busy. I teach once a week the 1 to 2 year olds, so that takes some time for planning and such (but it is pretty fun, so I don't mind). Taking care of the house- cleaning, laundry, gardening in the summer- drive me crazy, but as I don't want to look like we are a pack of wolves I should really try harder. I really want an office/craft room (right now my desk is in the living room) but that would mean a bigger house and thus more money. Right now, I can't get a full time job because my girls are too young to stay home on their own. I suppose I will look for that in five or six years.

message 11: by Carol (new)

Carol | 166 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
Knitting is my main hobby after reading. I have umpteen WIP and enjoy knitting for my new grandson

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
I enjoy watching TV series and films, especially crime ones like CSI

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Working, unfortunately, housework or watching TV

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Just relaxing and having a rest. Besides working full time, my husband is disabled and unable to do much around the house, so I have to do all the cooking, cleaning, etc

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Not enough hours in the day means that I often don't get to bed until after midnight and find relaxing hard to do unless I read or watch TV for a couple of hours.

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily | 440 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
travel, yoga, rugby, and I'm just getting into baking (send easy bread recipes my way guys!)

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
I'm not sure the difference between this question and the one above, but my favorite thing would have to be traveling to an exciting new destination.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
reading travel blogs, watching Netflix with my husband

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
spending time with my closest friends - our move to England means I'm an 8 hour flight minimum from my dearest friends and family

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
work, of course
and my husband is a bad influence in the TV over books struggle
and a few million dollars would be nice, to travel the world at my leisure
(honestly, I am really lucky and get to enjoy what I like fairly unhindered. I cannot complain.)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments 1. I like to travel, go to the movies, listen to music.
2. My favorite thing to do is spending time with my younger kids. They are a lot of laughs.
3. I would be watching Supernatural on Netflix
4. I don't get to spend time alone relaxing. Sometimes you need a me time and I don't get that as often as I'd like to.
5. Lately it's been spending time at rehabs and hospitals but it's usually running around with kids even though that's still an issue. LOL

message 14: by Molly (last edited Mar 14, 2016 12:01PM) (new)

Molly (mollyrotondo) | 135 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?

Of course the usual: tv and movies. My boyfriend go to the movies at least once every two weeks and watch movies on Netflix. I grew up watching Turner Classic Movies with my mom so I have a huge appreciation for old classics. There is a theater in Jersey City that shows classics one weekend a month so I do my best to make it out for at least one movie being played.
@Karen I also love to sing! I was involved in my high school and college choirs, but since I graduated in 2012 I haven't been able to find a group to join. I also play the piano and compose music.
I take a tap dance class. It is only once a week, and the instructor only offers it once a year because she likes to incorporate it into the studios Dance Showcase in April. I love the class, but don't necessarily want to perform. But I've been a good sport about it for four years now. I wish it was more than once a week and that I could go all year because it's my best form of exercise.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?

My favorite fun things are all of the above, and shopping with my mom. I hate shopping alone, but she makes it so much more fun

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?

Definitely watching television or Netflix. I record a lot of shows on my DVR and always have to catch up.

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?

I don't get to sing or write music now that I'm part of the working world. I wish I had more time and energy to do both.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?

Work definitely. I'm just too tired at the end of the day to participate in other activities. I'm lucky I can stay awake at night to finish my books :)

message 15: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
I have so many…I love to sing. Though I don’t do it as often as I’d like, I do go to karaoke bars and sing whenever I can. I’m going to Vegas to sing the national anthem for a convention in June, so my karaoke exploits are paying off. Woo Vegas!
I also love to write…I’ve sort of made my writing my work in a lot of ways.
I’m a gamer. D&D takes up a lot of time; I both run the game and play the game.
I’m a rather spiritual person, so I try to do things that keep me connected, meditation, intuition practice, etc.
I enjoy cooking and trying new things when I can.
2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Probably playing D&D with my household. I am the only girl, living with 3 guys, but it has its advantages. They all love playing and running the game, and I think we have about 10 or more campaigns running right now. It’s a bit extreme. :D
3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Working on my fledgling writing business, playing D&D, spending time with my boyfriend (watching TV, listening to comedy, playing Skyrim,.) Sometimes I’m surprised I still have time to read.
4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Money is sort of tight right now, so I don’t get out as much as I’d like. I’m also a traveler; I’ve been to England, France, and Japan. I really miss it. Sometimes I just like going to a quiet bar for a couple of beers, or out to a new restaurant to try a new type of food (I like my sensual pleasures,) but we just don’t really have the means at the moment.
5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
I spend quite a bit of time writing and trying to get my name out there in the freelance biz. I also spend a lot of time with my boyfriend…or the others in my house. A lot of times we’re doing things that I enjoy, so I’m not complaining. Some of my other hobbies though, like singing or meeting up with others with spiritual interests can be difficult. 3 out of 4 of us are visually impaired, and the only sighted guy doesn’t have a car at the moment. So, unless the bus can take us there, or we can afford a cab, I’m going to be enjoying one of the hobbies I can do at home.

message 16: by Jo-Jo (last edited Mar 14, 2016 12:21PM) (new)

Jo-Jo | 686 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
I used to do a lot of gaming...mainly Call of Duty on Xbox360, oh and the Assassin's Creed franchise...if my hubby will ever go and get me a new refurbished Xbox360, I will continue with Assassin's Creed. Other than that, I enjoy hanging out with my 10 and 11 year old daughters...my 10 year old is always wanting me to watch The Originals, or Jane the Virgin, or some other series. My 11 year old loves Doctor Who and I've been watching that with her...she's into Pokemon, etc, and likes for me to play that with her, or pretend with the Littlest Pet Shop animals she has. Yep, doing things with my kids is definitely a big hobby of mine. We enjoy going to parks and geocaching as well...now that it's starting to warm up outside again, I'm sure we'll be out doing that really soon.
2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Hang out with my kids and hubby. Also, I enjoy crossword puzzles, and variety puzzle. Crafting is another thing I enjoy and swapping on Swap-bot.com used to be something I did all the time, but haven't in so long they may have deleted me by now...oops. I guess reading has taken priority.
3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing? Probably sleeping, helping kids with homework, or watching TV/movies.
4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough? Geocaching, travelling, and getting out of the house with my kids and hubby just the 4 of us. We live in a house with us 4, my sister and her hubby and 3 of her 4 kids, and my mom...so it's SOOOOO nice when it's just the 4 of us who are in my main family. I think I would go absolutely crazy if the house wasn't big enough for us to all be spread out from each other.
5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies? I don't work during the week, but my hubby does. That means that he is usually pretty worn out at the end of a work day- he works doing construction. I work on the weekends...on Saturdays, I have to bag up store ads and coupons etc. that I deliver to 2 routes on Sunday. Bagging it all up on Saturday usually takes about 6 hours and delivering it on Sunday normally takes about 6 - 7 hours. So, sometimes it is hard to find time for the kids, him, and I to all enjoy spending time together relaxing. Even when we are able to do something, it's tough to not be stressing about getting back to whatever is needing to get done. Not only that, keeping house and laundry for 10 people is a handful...I try to make myself take time to relax and enjoy my family AND to read. =)

message 17: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
Gaming - I've been really into the Division since it came out and I recently turned The Sims back on because I'm a glutton for punishment.

TV/Movies - I love anything sci-fi especially if it's dystopian themed or involves zombies. My fav lately has been iZombie and I was into the 100, but that's been wearing off a bit lately.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Gaming - I play a lot of PC games and a bit of Xbox too. I've been playing games since I was a tiny one, starting with the Atari and moving my way up through the Nintendo systems. Oh the games! So many games!

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Probably playing a video game or doing the stuff I'm obviously putting off by procrastinating and searching goodreads :-P

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Travel - I finally got my passport and I'm ready to hit the road! We did Disneyworld last year and this year is Maui. So excited! (And yes I realize neither of these require my passport. Soon.....)

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Work makes me sleepy all the time. I also have this wedding thing to plan which takes a lot of effort and time.

I love playing with string --- that means mostly knitting at the moment, but I crochet and needlepoint as well. I worked at a knitting store for a while so I have LOTS of yarn. I also love cycling and hiking --- but haven't done a lot of that recently.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
I play a lot of board games. I also play games on my iPad. We have a Wii, but I don't play that as much.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Realistically working or taking care of life (cleaning, cooking, etc)

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Travel!! I used to travel a lot, but I took early retirement and didn't have a lot of money coming in (knitting store employees don't make a lot), so big trips were the thing to go.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Besides travel, I enjoy my hobbies pretty regularly. I do sometimes have health issues that keep me from hiking and biking.

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?

I like to keep up with family and friends on Facebook, play with my dog, spend too-much-time on Goodreads, play games on Pogo.com, and cook/bake with recipes. I used to knit, and cross-stitch, and theoretically still could, but it's hard for me to find the time and interest.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
My favorite thing to do other than read would probably be to sleep. lol If I'm awake, I'm usually reading something. ;-)

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Surfing Facebook, probably. Either that or cooking/baking or playing with my dog.

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
I haven't worked on this cross-stitch project I started in high school in over 10 years. I wish I could get back to it. Same for the knitting, though I both learned to knit and stopped knitting in the last six years. I also LOVE to travel internationally, but it's been over 15 years since I was last out of the country. :'( And then there's my online-gaming with Pogo.com. I play so rarely, because of Goodreads/Facebook/reading/my dog, that I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription. I've been a member for most of the last 17 years. :'(

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Money and my disabilities are the main deterrents. I get easily distracted nowadays, and so struggle to carve out time even to read. And because I'm disabled, money is tight. I get a monthly disability check but it's somehow never enough money as it seems when it's just-arrived in my bank account. lol Also, my dog keeps me from doing some things in the way I used to. Every time I get comfy and feel like I'm on a roll with something, he needs attention. But on the other hand, my dog is my son and he's still a puppy (three in May) so I forgive him. ;-)

Music, movies, games & puzzles, cooking & trying new recipes, going to the beach... I would love to travel the world.
2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Watch a movie on the big screen, but I rarely go to the movies since I discovered Netflix.
3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Watching a movie ideally -- but more likely doing laundry!
4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
I love the beach, but even in summer we only make it once or twice a week.
5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Well, yeah, that work thing is a total bummer! HA! If I had the money I'd take off on a world cruise tomorrow.

@Corrine ~ I have problems sleeping as well. Do you have problems falling asleep or staying asleep? My issues are with falling asleep, but I've been enjoying it a lot more since finding audiobooks. I used to toss and turn for 2-3 hours before eventually falling asleep, sometimes longer. Now, I lay there and am doing something by listening to audiobooks, which helps me relax faster and if I'm still up for 2-3 hours, I'm not bored just laying there. It's helped a lot. Always glad to meet another KK fan! :) My Hubby is a FF fan, but I can not get into that turn based stuff. I need to run in and bash things! KK is top 5 favorite games for me.

@Emily ~ LOL. The difference between the first and second questions is just that the first is what are ALL your favorite things to do and the second one is which is your favorite of the favorites. :)

@Rylie ~ Awesome about Vegas!! Vegas is my favorite place in the world, it's so much fun. I hope you have a great time and so neat that you get to do that for a convention!

@Joanne ~ If we ever get a car, I really want to get into Geocaching. I know I would love it a ton.

@Jex ~ I'm the same way with so many games! My earliest gaming memories are of Super Mario and Goonies. I loved those games. What is Division all about? I've seen it around a lot, and it looks good, I just don't know if it's something I'd like.

I've never been; I'm super excited! My dad and I get to go for free, flight and everything, for my 2 minutes of fame. :D
We'll be there for a few days, so we'll, I'm sure, have time to do quite a few things. What do you enjoy doing there? I love travel recommendations! :)

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
I have taken/taught Taekwondo for many years, almost so long that I am bored with it. I watch TV/movies, normally while surfing the net, paying bills, etc, etc.

<2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Going to a movie on opening night, esp. in one of the MDX theaters, and a movie isn't complete without popcorn!

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
All of the life things that I never seem to be caught up on....

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Love going to the beach, it is so relaxing and peaceful (of course, I read while there!!

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies? I enjoy the things I love, sometimes not as often as I'd like but just because there doesn't seem to be enough hours in a day! Work takes up a huge chunk of time.

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments I'll read everyone's responses in the morning. I had a busy day today and just didn't have time to get to this 'til my fiancé went to sleep.

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
Dancing, listening to music. I enjoy playing the violin as well. It's been years since I've played, but I enjoy doing it.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
I'm a puzzle person for sure, which I definitely got from my dad. We love working on different kinds of puzzles together and coming up with odd scenarios and looking at it from different perspectives.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Either talking with my future husband, watching Netflix, or planning our wedding :)

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
One would be playing the violin. I always feel so self-conscious about practicing in the apartment. I don't want to be THAT neighbor. I also wish I danced more. All of my school days, dance was the focus of my life and was a really good coping strategy for me. Now that I'm an adult, those options are limited and with work on top of it, it's not always able to fit in my schedule, for the options that are there.

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Like I mentioned above, I'd love to dance (ballet, hip hop, tap) but money has been tight the past few months and it's not going to get any easier. Plus there's not too many options for adult dance classes. There's definitely more here than in Iowa, where I'm from, but still. It's hard to not dance as much as I used to.

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?

Crochet, photography, watching Netflix and Hulu, sleeping :). I have a lot of interests that I don't do that often or that I want to do, but haven't yet. Like, gardening, scrapbooking, camping, traveling, hiking, etc...

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?

Idk, to me crocheting and watching Netflix is fun.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?

Crocheting, or mainly looking at patterns to crochet. Or sleeping. Or working. Or cleaning. Right now I should be getting things ready for our move.

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?

Camping. I really love photography. I have a nice DSLR, but I really don't use it as often as I would like. Just getting out and spending a day with my husband. He works too much....

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?

Definitely work. And I spend way too much time researching or looking for new things, rather than doing them. For example, instead of just reading, I spend hours looking for new books to read either on GoodReads or by watching youtube reviews.

1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
Another knitter here - haven't picked up my most recent project for a few months though. I bake and cook whenever I can (looking forward to moving out of my dad's house again so I get my own kitchen back).
Scuba diving is a non-everyday hobby as well.

2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Hmm probably baking - mainly for the reactions of other people when they get free snacks to eat.

3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Combination of the above, work and sleep. Mainly work. Oh and planning my wedding for this summer (making 60 origami hearts for invitations at the moment...) and trying to sort things for the new house etc etc

4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Any/all of the answers to 1 and 2!

5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
Mainly work - I'm a doctor so lots of long days and study when I'm home. Time with my other half means I can't enjoy the solitary hobbies, but it has its benefits as well!

Karsyn (imzadi) Rylie ~ I love everything about Vegas! My first trip was when I was 20 and I've been there 7 times. I'm not even a gambler so it's just all about the sights, sounds and atmosphere for me.

My favorites are the rides and the shows. The roller coaster at NYNY is fantastic and the stuff on top of the Stratosphere is fun as well. Outside Vegas is a town called Primm and they have one of the tallest coasters over there, It's one of my favorite coasters.

Depending on what kind of music you like, you'd probably like some shows. The music for everything is wonderful, especially any of the Cirque shows. They have a Beatles one, and a Michael Jackson one going on right now, along with their others. Blue Man Group is great for the music as well.

Just stepping off the plane is amazing. There's slot machines in the airport, so right away you get that sound, which is my favorite sound in the world. :)

If you haven't been out west before, you gotta hit In & Out Burger. It's a simple burger place but so yummy!! It's always the first place I went when we got there. The buffets are fantastic. They got expensive the last time I was there, so I'm sure they are more so now, but they are so good. The one at the Rio has the biggest variety, or did anyways. I haven't been in 8 years, so a LOT has changed.

You'll have to tell me what all you do there when you get back. I always have to live vicariously through people that go. I miss it!

The Division is about New York after a horrible virus has been unleashed. Division Agents are activated to help keep the peace and help find a cure. It's a 3rd person shooter (which I don't usually like) but it's all based upon hiding in cover and using your surroundings to protect yourself instead of just running and shooting. It's a lot of fun.

@Samantha: I completely understand your dance dilemma! I feel that it's really hard to find dance places as an adult unless you just go do zumba or some workout type dance. And if you do find something, it's usually geared towards the more senior crowd or meant for people that have been dancing all their life or is expensive. Annoying.

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments @Jex Ya, it's been really frustrating. I was blessed to have my aunt as my dance teacher for most of my childhood (ages 6+). When I was home for a year after college, I went back and took adult tap, which my aunt would actually choreograph a dance to perform in the recital. I LOVED it so much because I was a dancer again. Now that I'm out here in California, where there's opportunities for everything, I'm having trouble finding something similar. One of the few adult classes that I could even find had adult tap and ballet. The tap was just combinations. It wasn't making a dance or trying to remember combos from one week to the next, which wasn't challenging. Ballet....ballet was interesting. The form she was teaching was different from my aunt's and the teacher was MUCH older, so it was awkward.

The second place I went to only had ballet that I was able to go to. I really loved that class, but it was difficult at the time to make the commitment because it was one out of two nights that I was able to to see my fiancé because I wasn't at work. It was either dance and not see him or not dance and see him. Now that I have a different job, I might get back into it after the wedding. It's just so hard, but I miss it so much.

message 34: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Is say ballet and hip-hop. I love ballet because of the challenge, it's something you can't really perfect. With hip hop, I love how there's really no rules to it, like the opposite of ballet. I can really feel the beat and it motivates me :)

Imagination Meg (imaginationmeg) | 60 comments 1: Beyond Books, what are your hobbies / interests?
I really enjoy theater and have been participating in the local community theater for 4 years this spring. My favorite shows of the 8 I've done have been Les Miserables and Mary Poppins. Because of the fact that I am constantly in theater, I have gotten into dance and singing/acting lessons. I mainly take tap and jazz and love singing songs from Broadway musicals in my lessons. I also have taken horseback riding lessons in a discipline called dressage, although I'm not taking them right now.
2: What is your favorite fun thing to do, other than read?
Road trips to awesome places like National Parks (my favorite was the Grand Canyon and surrounding area 2 years ago.
3: If you aren't reading, or surfing GoodReads, what would you be doing?
Watching my favorite TV show, homework, and sleeping. Or theater. Always theater.
4: What do you enjoy doing, besides reading, that you don't get to do often enough?
Road trips and horseback riding.
5: What things in your life (work, family, ect...) keep you from enjoying your hobbies?
School and homework and the theater (although that is really fun).

I love Vegas! We go all the time because it's only a 4 hour drive from us and its nice to get away for a couple days.

The best buffet there is the Bacchanal buffet in Ceasers Palace. PBR Rock bar is good food too (in Planet Hollywood). There are a lot of cool sites even just walking around! The Monte Carlo has the best pools - a regular, a wave pool, and a lazy river. I hope you have a lot of fun!
