1: What are your favorite challenges?
It varies for me. It has to be something I am interested in. So I love all types that are done for the most part, if it's something I find that I like.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I'm hoping to make read-a-thons more of a regular thing. I like the challenges where there's a lot of interaction, rather than people just doing things on their own, one of the reasons I love team challenges so much. Can't think of anything I want less of. :)
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
Not much! :) Just finding others who like the same things that I do.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I look forward to another Wheel-a-Thon, and of course Tower Teams when they return.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share?
Quite a few actually. You've seen my ideas a few times now. I came up with this read-a-thon and the structure of it. Though I'm doing Road to St Patricks, that wasn't my idea, it was Kelly's from Tower Teams. I have an American Ninja Warrior challenge going on and I have, oh I don't know, 10 or so ideas waiting in the wings, including one that I definitely have to figure out the structure of because there are quite a few of you here that, by the conversations over the past few days, are going to LOOOOOOVE it!!

I LOVE Scavenger Hunts. I would love a monthly one. It makes reading so much fun for me when I have a list of words I'm hunting down. I also enjoy really any of the mini challenges that have you hunting for a certain kind of book. Spell it outs don't do much for me, but a list of "Find a book that contains--" or "Find a book about--" challenges are a blast.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I would be okay with less spell it out based challenges.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I'm a gamer so I'm all about fake rewards lol But other than that, nothing. I really just enjoy the feeling of accomplishment.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
Wheel A Thon is always a blast!
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
Nope, not that I can think of.

I like the long team challenges with themes and different things to participate in.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I'd like to see more themed, long team challenges.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I like badges and such :)
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
Team Towers!

I enjoy challenges where you read what you want and points are given for pages and bonus points available for goals or set bonus' for certain amount of time.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
More of spell outs and read a thons.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
Nothing
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
Wheel a thon since I haven't gotten a chance to participate yet.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share?
No

Spell-it-Outs :) OH, and of course the RPG <3
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I like the Read-a-Thon a lot!
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
Hmmmm... a "Member of the Month or Week" picked randomly out of those that have successfully completed a challenge?
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
A team challenge, I really would like to participate it one
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
No, sorry

I really like longer challenges, quarterly ones or even 6-month challenges. I'm in a bunch of groups and try to do as many book club reads as a I can, so that doesn't leave me a ton of options for my own reading in any given month, so I find it harder to do challenges that only last a month.
In terms of types of challenges, I'm getting a bit more into the spell-it-out challenges from the Leprechaun quests, but those aren't my favorite. I much prefer ones where you have to find something in the cover, or it takes place in a certain location, or the title contains some word, something along those lines. But ones that you can figure out without having to read the book first! (I'm still trying to find a book to cover "Character visits a tall building", something like that never shows up in the GR summary!)
I also think it's fun to do challenges where the books have to be read in a certain order, as long as there's a couple options for each step.
I had a lot of fun with the Tower Teams challenge, and am looking forward to another team challenge!

I am down for most challenges. I really like to spell out words with titles and author names according to month/season appropriateness in particular. I also really dig themed challenges- The Sorting Hat, for instance. I am doing that this year and am really excited about it.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I don't even pay attention to the challenges I am uninterested in, and I think there is a nice mix of challenges on the site, anyway. I wouldn't change much.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I like time limits- it really makes it a challenge because there is a start and end date and then you are really compelled to give it your best.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I have no real reference for this. Most of the past challenges, I have access to and can start up whenever I want to.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
I am a fan of themed challenges for the time of the year- so, come next Oscars, have a list of all the movies turned to books and challenge the readers to read them before the Oscars- maybe make the time period as long as possible. As soon as the nominees are announced, put up the challenge and it ends when the Oscars air.
Over the summer, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them will debut (July, I think). Maybe create a monster based challenge for that (could also work for Halloween) where you are a more ferocious monster the more books you read. (Would be for just a month's time).
Stuff like that. I like the Leprechauns take over thing. Maybe in October it can be ghosts or something. That kind of thing.
(Don't know if these are specific enough, but it is what comes to mind).

The novel RPG is seriously my favorite. It’s combining roleplaying and reading, 2 of my favorite hobbies.
I also love team challenges and competitions and challenges with time limits and rewards. I like interacting with people as well, so any challenge like that is something I’ll take part in.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
There is a wonderful mix of challenges on here, so I’m very happy with the selection.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I just got introduced to challenges a couple of months ago, so I’m still thoroughly enjoying what’s being offered. I’m glad we’re doing the readathon; I feel like I’m getting to know others in the group a lot better through the questions and interactions.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I can’t wait for another team challenge. I enjoy the ATW challenge, but the tower teams are more of a competition, and I like rewards to work for. This is why I’m really enjoying the leprechaun challenges and the coins we can earn.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
I have something in mind for an NBRC cookbook (for those of us who love to cook,) where we spell out the name of a recipe, and once it’s spelled out, that person gets to write out their recipe. I haven’t figured it all out yet because I’d like to have it so that it’s not all spell it out, but I’m still thinking about it.

1: What are your favorite challenges? (by style, or specific name)
I really love Spell-It-Outs, and Tower Teams IV was great fun. I like the themed challenges (like March's Leprechaun ones here in NBRC). I really just love the challenges. Some perhaps more than others, but I enjoy them all from time to time.
Oh! I especially like those types of challenges that are flexible enough for me to read what I want and then figure out how the books I read can fit. :-)
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I don't know. . . Maybe more Spell-It-Outs? Definitely less of the "find this phrase in a book" type challenges. I'd much prefer more of the "find this word in a book (plurals/tenses/spelling variations acceptable)" type.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I'm not sure how they could be more fun to do, as I already enjoy them quite a lot. I did like that in TTIV, the "winners" were announced. And I was a bit disappointed to learn that the Around the World challenge won't end with "winners." So I guess the challenges could be slightly more fun if the winner/winners was highlighted in some way, even if that's only in the next-month's newsletter. ;-)
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
All I can think of is Tower Teams. I LOVED my Tower Team and participating in Tower Teams IV was huge fun! I loved that we got new goals to complete every time any one of our team read a book to count for a particular goal (that not everyone had to read the "goal book," in other words). But since Tower Teams is a yearly thing (???), I guess maybe I should have tried to think of something else? lol ;-)
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share?
No, I am not the greatest when it comes to coming up for challenge ideas. Instead, I'd like to commend all of our NBRC Mods (and others?) who work on creating all of the excellent challenges we have to choose from each month! Thank you all! Keep up the great work!!! :-)

Favorite: NRPG!! The role-playing game here is the coolest challenge on ALL of GR!!
Others I really like: I love the Seasonal Reading Challenge from the group of the same name. It's the most challenging and well structured I've found on GR. It's wonderfully moderated, and they are strict and totally fair. Each season I have to push myself and my reading comfort zones further and further to succeed in this challenge. Everything else seems like fluff and not really a challenge when compared to this one.
I also LOVE group challenges and competitions. I get to meet new GR folks, and I enjoy the friendly competition and pressure to read more to help my team.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of? I could absolutely care less about spell-it-out challenges. They don't seem like challenges at all to me. One can read whatever they want and just plug in the letters. A challenge is one that makes you search out a new book, author, or genre. They just aren't my style, but I know others enjoy them, so rock on with 'em! I never want to see less challenges!
3: What could make challenges more fun for you? More group challenges and more things like this were we collect coins. :)
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon? Not sure. All of them? ;)
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.) Kelly's been great letting me brainstorm on the NRPG. I was so honored and excited to see that the pet playtime was used for March. :)

I can't take credit for most of the great stuff the mods do here, since I'm still pretty new, but they really have been great. I'm sure when they come around (all the rest of them are pretty tied up right now in various things) I'm sure they will be grateful for your kind words! :)
Stephanie ~ There have been Oscar ones in the past. I believe one of the former mods kept up with it so once she left it hasn't been done lately. It's not really my thing, but I'll make a note in my planning area to get it put up next Oscar time. The Fantastic Beasts is a good idea. :) I'm putting all ideas in a folder and I'm sure the mods will talk about 'em and do something with them at some point. :)
Rylie ~ There used to be more cookbook stuff on here, and it just wasn't very popular. Do you know we have the one cook book challenge ~ Cooking and Cookware A-Z? If you figure out how you'd like your idea, or want help figuring something out for it, let us know. :)

I just started participating in the challenges (with the ATW team challenge) and I love it! I think anything that involves either a team or collecting rewards if it is an individual challenge sounds great!
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
The variety is great! I like the mixture and I am free to join any that appeal to me. Again, team or those offering "reward" would be my favorites now.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
If they were any more fun or addicting than they already are, I wouldn't have time for the other things I need to do....like my job!
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I don't have an opinion on this one, as I haven't read about all the past challenges and I am quite new to the challenges.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
Not at the present time.

I'm REALLY loving the role-playing game. I love being able to fight monsters, level up weapons, buy items, and complete quests with books. It's a great idea and I hope it continues!
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I see a lot of spell-it-out challenges, which can be difficult for me because I don't typically read a lot. My average (with not working the past couple of months) has been about 10 books a month, so spelling out even one word can be difficult. I like the idea of having challenges explore what Goodreads has to offer. For example, the last quest for LRPG is to read an exciting book from the exciting books list. I'm always trying to broaden my horizons with reading and I think it's a great way to help explore nooks and crannies readers didn't even know about.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
Like I've said, I really enjoy the role-playing game. I like that I can go at my own pace and upgrade things in a strategic way. I also know that creating those kinds of challenges is extremely time consuming, which is part of why I treasure it so much. I think what would add to the fun would be interacting with other members (like the Read-a-thon is doing!) so as to bounce ideas off of each other and talk about books that we've read or want to read. I'm really interested in participating in a challenge like the Tower Challenge, but I don't know if I read enough to be able to participate.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I haven't been in the group that long, so I haven't participated in many challenges. Definitely keep up the role-playing game!
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
I mentioned above that I would like to participate in a Tower challenge, but I don't know if I read enough to be able to participate in it. If I can, awesome! If not, it would be nice to have a similar challenge that is designed for readers that aren't able to go through 1+ books a day. I don't know what it would look like, but maybe if I marinade on that thought for a while, I'll think of something.

I really like the team challenges. I also just started the role playing one. I prefer longer challenges because I'm definitely not as fast a reader as some here.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I think the mods do an amazing job having something for everyone. I personally don't like spell it outs all that much, but could see how they are appealing to some.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
Nothing that I can think of.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
Nothing I can think of.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? I'm actually the challenge mod for the historical fictionistas group. Our most popular challenge is a year-long Historical Fictionistas University challenge (I think there is an education themed spell it out challenge here) -- it is tasked based. We did a road rally a couple summers ago which combined books read as a team with tasks. It might be similar to the around the world one going on now. I think it's really difficult to try to come up with team things that balance speedy readers with slower readers so the slower readers don't feel pressure.

OF COURSE you can participate in Tower Teams!! Don't let any kind of perceived lack of reading think you can't. The team needs all kinds of readers from the heavy ones to the light ones!! Don't think you can't contribute, because you totally can
Take TTIV. Not to brag, but MY team Anubis won it. :) Sure we had 3 heavy hitters and we were reading a lot, but we also had another 3 that read less than 20 (total) for the 2-3 months we did it.
Their books mattered. If they hadn't read them, we wouldn't have finished when we did. Plus, if you are chatty and are on a chatty team, THAT'S what 90% of the fun is!
You'll love TT and don't worry about what you can do, just do what you can and have fun!

OF COURSE you can participate in Tower Teams!! Don't let any kind of perceived lack of reading think you can't. The team needs all kinds of readers from the heavy ones to the light one..."
That's really reassuring to hear :) I'll definitely be joining up for the next one then! :)

My favorite challenges are the role-playing ones - they are so creative!
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I would like to see more seasonal ones because the shorter the challenge, the harder it is to complete, so I'd like longer ones.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I like the idea of collecting coins from this challenge, so more of that would be fun!
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I don't have preferences, but it would be nice if there was a variety, not a lot of one thing.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share?
I would really like to see more challenges for people who can read about 1-2 books a week. I don't have any specific ideas, but I hope this helps!

I LOVE team challenges. My favorite is a toss up between the Wheel-a-Thon and Tower Team Challenges. The Around The World Challenge is also a ton of fun.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
Hmm…I think our Mods do a fantastic job, so I’m very content! The occasional “takeover” with all sorts of mini-challenges are refreshing and breaks up any monotony.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
Provide snacks! DUH! Dr. Pepper, Hot Pockets, and plenty of chocolate for late night reading. ; )
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
Wheel-A-Thon! I look forward to it all year!
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
Maybe in the future. I enjoy creating challenges, but I don’t have the time to dedicate to it right now.

Have you seen the NRBC's Around The World Challenge? It's an 8 week / 8 book team challenge that is self managed by the individual team. I've had a lot of fun with it!

I have really come to like the group challenges.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
The short month long challenges are though, but they can be fun too. I like the longer ones.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I do like it when non reading tasks are thrown in, but it is a reading challenge so....
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I like the take overs it is kind of fun to see the site change depending upon what took it over.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.) The challenge factory does a three month long scavenger hunt. You just read books and when you find an item in your book you check it off your list. Multiple items can be found in one book.

I'm still rather new to challenges in general, so it's hard to say. I will say this: the ATW challenge was the first group challenge I joined and my group, Wandering Bibliophiles, is awesome! Everyone was so friendly and helpful right from the start.
2. What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
Still too new to tell. I just need to restrain myself from doing too many at one time.
3.What would make challenges more fun for you?
I am really enjoying this one! I like the idea of the daily questions and getting to know other members a little bit better. As avid readers, I think we tend to isolate ourselves. GR gives us an opportunity to relate to one another and discuss our passion.
4. Not sure about former challenges...
5. Do you have an idea for a challenge that you'd like to share?
Not yet,but I'm sure I will someday!!

2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I'm happy to see more of all of them, and less of none of them.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you? In team challenges, such as Tower Teams, etc. it would make it more fun if the tasks were switched up from challenge to challenge, so that you don't know what to expect. There is some excitement and fun in not knowing.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon? Gladiator!
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? I'm not even sure if this would work. And not even sure it's a challenge. But I think it might be fun to do something where we do a neverending poem or story and maybe make it where each book read by a member who participates can only write one line and the first word in the first line they write would have to start with the first letter of their book's title, author's first or last name, or MC. Then a poem or story would evolve that is written together by all participants.
Or maybe it could even be done as a single person doing it but where they could only write one line in the poem per book with the same rules standing for the first letter in each line(could even make the last letter in the line have to be one of those too, to make it more challenging), and they must complete so many lines in order to gain exp. or gold in the NRPG or to gain their "RANK" where 0-4 books = Rookie Rhymer
5-8 books = Warmed-up Wordsmith
9-12 books = Somewhat Shakespearean
12-15 books = Brilliant Bard
15 + books = Illustrious Ink-slinger
or something of the sort... those names were just on the spot, so in no means set in stone. Like I said, not even sure if something like this would work...I just think it would be fun to see everyone's creative side come out and I would love to see what everyone writes if something like this was tried.
(Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)

I like the team challenges like Tower Teams. I also like the slightly longer challenges like 3 month or seasonal challenges. A month is usually too short for me to really participate since I'm a slow reader.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I love read-a-thons because they get me to read more and they are kind of a build your own type thing.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
Can't think of anything.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I always look forward to Tower Teams as I love the social aspect.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
No ideas at the moment.

Unlike what a lot have said. I like the Spell it Out challenges. I can actually complete those. Also, longer challenges are easier for me. Because I don't have to pressure myself to read a lot in a month. I don't usually read as much as I have this last month.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
Idk. I think there is a good variety of challenges. I am enjoying this Read a Thon and participating in the Leprechaun challenges. So more of those might keep me interested.
I think that maybe some of the older challenges that have been around for several years could be retired/Archived. Especially the ones that have little to no activity.
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I am starting to like having some type of reward with finishing challenges. Like those with the RPGs.
I like that with the current Leprechaun challenges they are a bit more lenient. Because we don't have to do all the challenges to get some type of reward. And with the Dress Like A Leprechaun we don't have to get every piece of clothing to get coins. Maybe if there were more monthly challenges that were similar I would join. So even if you can't finish the challenge within the month you will still some type of credit or reward for finishing something.
4: What former challenge would you like to see done again soon?
I am not sure. I see that a lot of people are saying the Tower Teams. I have seen those, but haven't had the guts to join, because I have no idea how they work. Depending on where I am with my reading when the challenge comes back around I will think of joining.
5: Do you have an idea for a challenge you'd like to share? (Can be messaged to the NBRC Mod if you prefer.)
I don't have any ideas for any new challenges. But I was thinking that with the NRPG that some of the quests could have a level requirement. So, for some of the tasks you can be at level 0, but as you go on you will have to be at like level 5, or 10...to be able to complete other quests.

Tower Teams at it's most basic is a group of people reading what they want and chatting about it and anything else. The last one there were mini-tasks and goals that you could read for as well if you wanted to. There's no minimum reading target. Some of my best GR friends were made in it.
1: What are your favorite challenges? (by style, or specific name)
I really like the team challenges. My favourite part of them is always interacting with other members.
2: What challenges would you like to see more / less of?
I think there's a really good mix on here with options that suit everyone
3: What could make challenges more fun for you?
I second the comment of food!!

Hmm. Tower Teams was my 1st major challenge on here and is one I'm always a huge fan off.

I've been enjoying the Candy Crush Series challenge in one of the other groups - it's pushing me to actually get closer to finishing a lot of the series I've had hanging around for the last many years

Tower Teams is quite easy. At the very core, you just read. That's the beginning and end of what can be done. Nothing more or less. Your book pages are counted for a certain number of points, depending on length. Everyone's pts/pages are tallied as we go and the team who reaches the target score (usually 25000) wins.
There is a little more beyond that, but only if you would want to do it. You can join BOM's for points. There were "Goals" implemented last time that are basically the "Road to St Patricks" type thing. We got points for doing those as well. But again, you don't have to do that, reading is all that has to be done.
TT is mainly about the team and interacting for most people. It's just a way to have fun and work together towards a goal. Hope you'll give it a try next time, or any team challenge. If you want, you can remind me to see if you can be put on my team. All my team members have to do is read, and chit-chat if they wanna. :) My one team for Wheel-a-Thon was the chattiest I've ever seen and we won that one, while my TTIV team didn't talk beyond the books that they were reading and we won that one too. It's just meant to be lots of fun!

Thank you. I just went and looked at the previous threads, it does look a bit more simple and fun than I was thinking. I will try to remember to look for the sign-ups when it comes around again.

LOL! If you wanna. It was only 2, my other 3 or 4 didn't do so well. :) It depends on the people. My Wheel-a-Thon team (go Astronomers!) of which Becky was a part of was chatty as crap. We posted like crazy but everyone read a moderate amount for the most part and just worked well together. Loved that team! :) My Anubis team was their complete opposites. I kept trying to get everyone to chat and they just wouldn't. Not a chatty group at all and I gave up after a while. Our thread consisted only of goal/book updates. But we kicked butt in the book department.
I love the team challenges, they are great fun. Everything these mods come up with is great, and dang do they work off each other well. We're trying to figure out some stuff now for the future and ideas are flying around. :D
Mine have been variable too! Don't think it helps that I can be very variable in how much I want to chat. I was definitely better while I was still a student.
Really looking forward to seeing what you all have planned next!
