Reading Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver and I'm struggling a little bit! It's almost too well-written - she's such an intelligent lady but I'm kind of bored by how long it takes her to say things cleverly haha.

I wanted to finish off this year’s reading with something memorable so I picked up Lenny's Book of Everything. I’ve just finished and what a fantastic end to the year. An easy read but so emotional.

I'm cramming in Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend before the year is over, mostly to complete my last two challenges! Lucky it's an easy read!

Just finished Little Exiles by Robert Dinsdale.

Predominantly set in Australia, however the author is English, I think the author did a pretty good job of capturing a sense of place. Set in rural Western Australia, about English children brought out to work on properties owned by religious orders in Australia after WWII, with and without the knowledge of their families. Also a strand about the stolen generation, happening in the same time and place.

Avoids the detail of brutality, but a sad book about broken children, broken adults. I think this one will stay with me for a little while. ★★★☆

Just finished Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd by Holly Black - a collection of short stories by YA authors. My Reading challenge total for the year is 76.
Next up Laura Lake and the Hipster Weddings by Wendy Holden. Figure this fluff will be good for tomorrow's flight to Japan.

The Road is one of my top reads of all time - I could not read for days after I finished.

I refused to watch the movie version - I understand it was terrible - but the emotions the book evoked were enough for me.

I finished The Road last night. Can't say it was enjoyable as the subject matter is so sad but it was a very well written, good read.
Starting Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak today.

Started Hunter, the sequel to Hangman, when I got to p37 I burst out laughing and haven't been able to keep the smile off my face for the rest of the day. Apparently the FBI's new field office director at Houston is Marianne Zinnen. (my maiden name is Marianne van Zinnen, Jack Heath said he had to leave out the van as there were already too many V characters)
Wow, it's the first time I've been a character in a book!!! Fame at last, LOL
(Jack asked for volunteers for character names on Facebook. I haven't read much further so I don't know if I'm nasty or nice :) )

I've just started Trouble in Nuala by Harriet Steel and loving it - is the first in a cozy mystery series which will keep me going for years!!!

Is written in the style of Agatha Christie - the blurb says in part: Set on the exotic island of Ceylon in the 1930s, Trouble in Nuala is an entertaining and relaxing mystery spiced with humour and a colourful cast of characters. So far that sums it up completely

I have just picked up 2 YA reads:

Binti by Nigerian American author Nnedi Okorafor - Sci fi, set in space at a university far, far away - Binti wins a scholarship and has to leave her African village and travel out in space where there are evil aliens!!!

and

Boy X by Dan Smith - Also Sci-fi but not set in space, is set in the jungles of South America and is a thrilling adventure with a deadly virus poised to be unleashed on the world.

I found myself without a book here in Hong Kong so downloaded the Kindle app and purchased Agatha Raisin and the Terrible Tourist by M.C. Beaton. I love this series. Hoping to find a bookshop in the next day or so to get something for the plane trip home.

After watching the movie, I knew I had to read Crazy Rich Asians. The movie was enjoyable but not deep enough for me, kind of like a cliche romcom between a rich guy and lower-middle class girl with the guy's family having issues with accepting the girl because she's not good enough. A lot of characters. Short chapters are great, and they're from many different perspectives. I appreciate the footnotes with translations and extra info for what things mean in context. Really enjoying this more than the movie.

I have read the trilogy and really enjoyed them.

Have started reading The Widow of Ballarat by Darry Fraser and really enjoying it so far. Set as the Eureka Stockade happens there is a lot going on and a really good plot.
