I did enjoy it even though there were some sad themes.
I'm just starting Madonna in a Fur Coat by Sabahattin Ali
Loving Jack and Kate by Aussie author, Dianne Blacklock, especially as part of it is set just up the road from me in Stanwell Park. But oh boy, she's got me choking up a fair bit...
I've just finished reading
The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha PulleyIt's ratings vary from 1* to 5* so not for everyone. Depends on how much you can suspend your disbelief I guess. Anyway I found it delightful and gave it 5* Two years to wait for a second installment though.
I'm reading The Orchid Girls by Lesley Sanderson
. Good premise, but it's proving a bit too slow going for me.
Read
"The Horse Thief" by Tea Cooper on a four hour flight. Not my usual cup of tea (I prefer non-fiction generally) but well written and easy to read. 4*
Brenda wrote: "Loved The Horse Thief Stella :) Glad you did too, even though not your normal fare.." I'd probably read a lot more fiction if I had more time to read uninterrupted. I don't like putting a good story down, whereas I can read nonfiction in bite size pieces :)
I have a dozen or more books on my kindle and kobo right now, but have just bought The Complete Works of E. F. Benson - author of those delicious Lucia and Mapp social satires, some of which I've still to read. 30 books and 70 short stories for $1.99 on kobo. I may be away a while. This edition isn't on Goodreads.

Currently enjoying some very entertaining dialogue in Andrzej Sapkowsi's 'Blood Of Elves'. It's essentially a revival of Slavic-polish folklore with adult themes. Reading it I feel like I'm at the medieval faire I've long wished to attend.
A friend lent me "Georgiana Molloy, the mind that shines" by Bernice Barry. The conditions in which even the wealthiest of early settlers had to live in WA were unbelievably hard. Georgiana Molloy: The Mind That Shines
I'm still working my way thru The Clockmaker's Daughter and really enjoying it. I've been looking up the historical period of artists that she mentions and one character is part of; Magenta brotherhood as in Pre-Raphaelite group of artists. It's one of my own favourite styles.

Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski
Currently reading A Spark of White Fire and Girls of Paper and Fire. Both are YA fantasies which is pretty much my go-to genre at the moment haha.

Well, I have finished reading The Colours of all the Cattle, written my review and returned it to the library, but now I'm listening to the wonderful Adjoa Andoh reading it to me as I drive, hang out the washing, do chores... bliss!!Phrynne, if your library has these on Borrowbox like mine does, try one of the No 1 Ladies books out, so lovely to listen to!
Marianne wrote: "Well, I have finished reading The Colours of all the Cattle, written my review and returned it to the library, but now I'm listening to the wonderful Adjoa Andoh rea..."
I will have a look at that Marianne:)

When I brought The Drop: A Slough House Novella home from the library, I foolishly told DH he could read it first. This morning, heading off for my walk, I knew I would finish my current read, so I took The Drop: A Slough House Novella with me: he's still in bed, after all. Got soundly berated when I returned. Now we're competing readers, LOL. Doesn't happen very often, but a little dose of Slough House is irresistible
Diana wrote: "Just starting Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart"Oh, I liked #4 of this series so much I'm starting at the beginning in the New Year, with this one, obviously!
Last week I was reading a novel set in southern Tassie, Past the Shallows, and now I am there again, this time on Bruny Is, with The Alphabet of Light and Dark, and enjoying this one even more.
Just finished Circle of Flight by A.A John Marsden. It had been a long time since I read the earlier books in this series, (which is a follow up to the Tomorrow when the war began series). I thought it was actually the last book / wind up book, but Marsden left it a bit open ended - so not sure if he is planning more.
If so, not sure I will sign up for more, I think it might have run its course. I enjoyed it, but can't really see a good direction forward from here.

I forgot to say - I am reading
Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend and LOVING it!!

That's in my Crime group summer challenge. I am looking forward to it!!!

Just started Empire of Sand, by Tasha Suri. It's an adult fantasy, inspired by the Mughal empire of India! I'm a huge fan of Asian settings :D
Vibur wrote: "Just started Empire of Sand, by Tasha Suri. It's an adult fantasy, inspired by the Mughal empire of India! I'm a huge fan of Asian settings :D"That one sounds really good!
I'm reading 2 books at the minute - The Sound of One Hand Clapping by Richard Flanagan
and
What Happened to the Corbetts by Nevil Shute
Carolyn wrote: "I'm reading
Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty. Enjoying it so far :)"I've got this on my TBR pile - earmarked it for a challenge next year
I’ve just started Freycinet for the Summer challenge. It’s been on my TBR for about 5 years because it took a really long time to get hold of a copy. I’m not loving the writing so far - it’s quite melodramatic - but I’ll keep going. When a book is described as a cross between Picnic at Hanging Rock and Twin Peaks, how could I resist?
I just finished The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey and loved it! Funny thing was, I was reading it for a challenge as a "horror" book. But it didn't occur to me once while I was reading it that it was supposed to be horror. I just checked again, and yep, horror is the most common shelving.
I thought it was lovely. Not sure what that says about me! But for anyone who like myself usually avoids horror, I highly recommend this one for your next challenge needing a horror book. Lovely.
