A Yorkshire Christmas by Kate Hewitt is a comfort read for me, and has everything my little heart desires - snow, Christmas and two lost souls being united over a confused and lonely child. Doesn't get much more soppy than this. LOVE it - LOL!!!

I've got that one to read too Margot :) Hope you're enjoying it!

I'm a little over halfway through listening to my final Armchair August challenge selection of Spirits of the Ghan by Judy Nunn. My first read of hers, (I've read a lot of authors for the first time this year!), and I'm finding it enchanting. :)
I'm about halfway through Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More by Janet Mock. This is an excellent memoir about Janet's childhood and her move to become a trans woman. I have learnt a lot about appropriate language and understanding of trans people through reading this. Excellent book.
Just picked up a copy of The Big Issue - Fiction Special today! This special edition contains 14 short stories of all genres by a host of big names - the two that drew me in were Matthew Reilly and Paulo Coelho. Love Reilly's stuff so had to pick up a copy, and of course it's always a good cause to contribute to!
Highly recommend you pick up a copy for $7 if you spot a vendor in your area! :)
I'm halfway through a very good YA book, Beautiful Mess
by Claire Christian and after another book, will be reading Beautiful Messy Love
by Tess Woods. I can't get over how similar the titles of these two 2017 books are, LOL
Cue Twilight Zone music again.... Just finished Beautiful Mess in which one of the characters collects vinyl records; now reading The Music Shop in which the main character owns a shop where he sells only vinyl records.
I'm just about finished After Iris .It's a middle grade book about a family coming to terms with the death of a daughter and sister that I borrowed from work.
I'm about 100 pages in on Too Easy by J.M. Green . I love this homegrown crime and amazingly a secondary character in this book has my surname which is not a common name. My sister worked with the author's sister so I had to ask 'is that where the name came from?' My sister thinks not but I'm not so sure of that.
I just started the Canberra-centric drama/comedy/thriller (I can't tell yet) The Marmalade Files by Aussie journos Steve Lewis and Chris Uhlmann.
Ryan wrote: "I just started the Canberra-centric drama/comedy/thriller (I can't tell yet) The Marmalade Files by Aussie journos Steve Lewis and Chris Uhlmann."Oh this one is in my September Challenge but I haven't got to it yet. The House with Annabel Crabb is my favourite show right now so I am thinking a book by Chris Uhlmann will be right up my alley.
I am reading Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan. I snuck in a couple of chapters just now at lunch.
I have Kwan's first book on my Kindle, waiting for me.Anyway I just started Jack London's doggy classic The Call of the Wild.

Loved that book Ryan!
Loved that book Ryan!
I've started a psychological thriller by Amanda Jennings called In Her Wake. It's so intense, yet at the same time the suspense builds ever so gradually. It's intriguing that's for sure!
I've just picked up a memoir by an Aussie author -
Destination Dachshund: A Travel Memoir: Three Months, Three Generations & Sixty Dachshunds by Lisa FleetwoodLook at those cute puppies - how can I NOT read this book :)

Cause of Death by Patricia Cornwell is what's currently on my bedside table.I'm enjoying it so far (you can write any old piece of parchment and set it in winter and I'll enjoy it).
I think this is the fifth or sixth in the series. I was starting to get a little bored of the protagonist's misery and mopeyness but I think she's starting to bounce back with this one.
There are some more progressive socio-cultural references in this one which I like and at this point it seems Cornwell has sourced her target audience and started to be a little less afraid of adult themes (language, violence, sex, drugs etc) in this, which works for me in my reading interests. Plenty of action.
So adorable, Sally! I'll be awaiting your review! Yours sounds excellent as well Kylie!
I can foresee two more TBR in my future! =o)

I loved this series, Baz. The depressing Kay Scarpetta does get a little old, through, doesn't it? It's too bad too because the content of the books is fantastic!

Indeed. I'm writing a short with a similar protagonist except the protag's voice is like a happy version of Kaye Scarpetta. I think I'm deflecting my own desires to finally see the real Scarpetta smiling haha
I started The International Bank of Bob: Connecting Our Worlds One $25 Kiva Loan at a Time by Bob Harris and am not enjoying it. There are so many footnotes and it is very dry. Could have been a conversational book and so much more interesting. I've put it aside for Teen Spirit by Francesca Lia Block

There you go!
YaY!! Last night finished Dead Again by Sandi Wallace and loved it ✮✮✮✮✮ from me!A double YaY because, although it took me a bit longer to read due to my crook eye atm, it broke my reading drought and I am now looking forward to getting stuck into more books asap! Thanks Sandi Wallace ;))
Next up is the long overdue Dead Souls by Angela Marsons
Yes, Jools, very glad you're back into it!I've just started The Good Daughter by my fave author, Karin Slaughter
Hi there Marianne - I have just started reading 'Last Breath', the prequel to 'The Good Daughter' - do you think that necessary? Thanks for your thoughts 😊
Mary wrote: "Hi there Marianne - I have just started reading 'Last Breath', the prequel to 'The Good Daughter' - do you think that necessary? Thanks for your thoughts 😊"Mary, not "necessary" but it's such a quick read and it does give insight into the characters, so why wouldn't you!

Ta - will do 😊
Stacks of books were piled high all over the house. Not just arranged in neat rows on bookshelves, the way other people kept them, oh no! The books in Mo and Meggie's house were stacked under tables, on chairs, in the corners of the rooms. There were books in the kitchen and books in the lavatory. Books on the TV set and in the closet, small piles of books, tall piles of books, books thick and thin, books old and new. They welcomed Meggie down to breakfast with invitingly opened pages; they kept the boredom at bay when the weather was bad. And sometimes you fell over them.

"I look forward to hearing what you think of this one Owl, it is on one of my 'to read' piles....
In pursuit of my 2017 challenge I am reading
And now I desperately want to go to Italy and see it for myself.
The early part of the book is a bit tough; there are a lot of Italian names I didn't know and couldn't remember, but about halfway it starts to become really engrossing.

I'm enjoying it very much so far, Deborah =o)
I'm reading it right now Diana. How do you feel about basing it around the clash between a female Rudd and a male Gillard?
To be fair only a little way in but each chapter by a different character so a little confused right now. I'm sure it will pick up.
I was reading Aussie-Irish author, Ber Carroll's Once Lost as an e-book to celebrate #readanebookday and as part of the nation-wide bookclub - Together We Read. I've never read any of her books before and I thought she did a great job - it was an easy read, although the subjects are serious ones. I will definitely be interested to read more of Ber Carroll's books!
