I served in the Air Force and so did two of my younger sisters. I also have a sister who served in the Navy. The book is based on many stories I've heard over the years from other military sisters and brothers. I was stationed in Okinawa and that is where I met and fell in love with my husband, so part of the story takes place there. This story was written as a sort of tribute to military life and from the perspective of a service member living in a foreign country. Also, I've always wanted to write a story about cyborgs in the military. Our world is headed in that direction now.(less)
