Fantasy book series, set in a world ruled by females, and tales the tale of a warrior

I am almost sure it's been published in the 90's.

I remember the first book cover has a "yellow feel" and showing a man fighting someone \ some animal.

I also remember that the warrior fought with big spider, and was very violent.

In addition I think the world has a master female queen who gives all the commends and checking the warrior consistently because he is a threat to her.

That's what I remember - I read it 20 years ago.
