I think I'm going to have to go ahead and read it on the date because I'm trying to read all the books that I have buddy reads scheduled for while I'm home on break. Otherwise, I would be okay with starting later, but I'm trying to read it over break and read it for a March reading contest thing.

I read the first 10 chapters. I like it so far, and I'm finding it much easier to get into than the author's other book that I read.

Of course, as always, if we get into it and have the time we can always read more than the scheduled plan. I think this would be doable for me this week, even though it's finals week.

I am really enjoying this so far. It's a bit different than other books I've read that are apocalyptic.

Denise (view spoiler)[is practically alone. I can't imagine having autism, an absent father, an addicted mother AND a missing sister. She's obviously a very high functioning autistic girl, but I'm not sure how, or if, her autism plays much of a role. I'll be curious to see. (hide spoiler)]

Max (view spoiler)[might turn out to be okay and possibly a friend, but I'm not so sure yet. (hide spoiler)]

Mirjam (view spoiler)[is one character I really like for some reason. I have a feeling she and Denise will be good friends. I'm glad she's helping her out with finding a skill. (hide spoiler)]

I can't imagine how it must feel to (view spoiler)[know "the end of the world" is coming and to have a place you could stay but where you aren't wanted. I can truly see how people would want to "protect their own" and could become very self-centered and not want to share their food, etc. That's a sad state to be in. I just hope that Denise is able to find a skill that they find valuable on the generation ship. (hide spoiler)]

I didn't find it feasible the way they (view spoiler)[sneaked their mom on the ship. I thought it was wrong too. Denise should have stuck to her guns and refused. I think a 6 month old child should take priority. And snuggle a baby in a backpack...okayyyyy. LOL (hide spoiler)]

I thought when Denise (view spoiler)[found her sister that it wasn't credible either. It was like out of the blue. (hide spoiler)]

People with autism need (view spoiler)[routine so I don't think Denise would be doing so well if she were really running around doing all she is and has autism. I wonder if she was misdiagnosed. (hide spoiler)]
