A man dies, his wife cremates him and sends his ashes to her stepson…in a fast-food burger box with a note that basically says “don’t bother me or I’ll put a hex on you”. That’s how this story begins and without a doubt, I was immediately intrigued and anxious to let the mystery unfold.

Andrea Bravos, the ex-wife of the decedent and mother of four adult children takes it upon herself to discover what really happened to her former husband and the father of her children. It’s certainly an interesting and entertaining story and I did enjoy all the twists and turns and interesting characters.

Although there is a mystery in this story, it seemed to be more of a secondary plot. The main plot really revolved around Andrea, who was in constant turmoil trying to deal with her age and relevance now that she was nearing retirement, however with each chapter her relevance is portrayed, even though she doesn't seem to notice.

There were a few disappoints that made the rating a difficult decision. The primary disappointment was the editing/proofreading errors, I came upon them in within the first 10% of the book and as the story unfolded, they started to become a bit of a distraction. And, like another reviewer noted, I found the main character positively grating. She was a constant contradiction, supposedly an independent and intelligent woman who supported herself and her four children, yet she had no real relationship with those children and it didn’t appear that she received any respect from them, she also came off as a bit dimwitted even though she was supposed to be intelligent.

However, I did enjoy the book and it was a fun read (aside from my issues with the main character…), I’d encourage the author to have it proofread to catch the errors and that would certainly elevate it to a 5 star novel!

This book was provided to me for free for an honest and unbiased review (see all our reviews at http://www.bookexplosions.com/ or on Goodreads at https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... )
