Guys, I'm loving this book and I'm in love with the characters, but I need to talk about something that irritates me.
(This is not a spoiler if you are past chapter 9)
(view spoiler)[ In the beginning, David kept saying and thinking about how he will do everything for Richard, will do anything to be with him etc.
Then, when Richard said what he did when he came to David's home, that was it!
I find that his reaction is way out of proportion I might say, especially considering he KNOWS R meant well. (hide spoiler)]
I still love it all though!

Thinking about it whilst I was working (I was supposed to be working :D) I came to admire David for sticking to his point for wanting his work which he did with love and pride to not be dismissed as irrelevant. It reminded me of how much I huff and puff when I spend hours on something and then when I present it, it's sent away at a flick of a finger as if nothing. So I guess David is being here what I'd love to be, strong and self confident. (hide spoiler)]

Yes Lucien and Stephen are from the Magpie series Alona - it is a bit of a magical series, the characters are to fall in love with. It has a different kind of intensity than this series. I don't know what you will make of the supernatural stuff though.

It's a fabulous series Alona, so funny, and yes, there is magic and most definitely supernatural elements.

I read your spoilers above with regards to what happened between R and D up to chapter 10 and - for me - (view spoiler)[David's reaction to Richard's offer was not exaggerated. Just the opposite. Richard - from the position of his privilege - can't see that a man could be proud of his work as a servant, and his offer is basically in the lines of: you change so we can be a better fit. For me it's perfectly understandable in this case that David should be hurt and insulted since all he wants is to be loved for who he is. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you to a certain point.
But, think of it from 1820-England's POV ;))
The "upstairs-downstairs" thing was SOOO strong, yet R is rather open-minded.
And don't forget, he did say that in the "secretary" position he will be free to join him to events, which as a valet he can only be with him at home.
Now, I'm not saying that D's reaction is unjust, and that I can't relate and understand, just that it is a bit unproportional, and should be resolved easily.
I will say again, it's not bothering me to a point that it makes the book less, because I love it completely!
