Kasia I know the August categories are not posted yet, but... But!!!
I can guess what #2 is going to be - something along the lines:

2. Read a book picked from a August B-Day celebrant GR shelf. Be sure to specify whose shelf you pick it from.

Am I right Yz?
Anyways, I'll be out on vacation for the next 10 days, so I'm posting links to our B-Day gals:

3 - Purple
3 - Samantha
12 - Ruth
12 - Yz
15 - Julie (Mom2lnb)
16 - Christie
17 - Daisiemae
27 - Plataso827
30 - Lara

Hopefully I didn't miss anybody...

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I finally got it done..LOL

To discuss the categories and suggestions, this is the thread for it.

1. August: Read a book which title starts with the letter "A".

2. B-day Shelf: Read a book picked from an August B-Day celebrant GR shelf. Be sure to specify whose shelf you pick it from.

3. Geography: Read a book whose author, setting or character is from Australia.

4. Friendship Theme: Read a book that features a "friendship" as its main storyline. Not limited to "friends-turned-lovers" romances.

5. Go Flying(Aviation Theme): Read a book that has a character that works as a pilot/flies a plane or anything related. Or it can also be a story that involves a plane or an airport, or it has an airplane on its cover.

6. Cover Search = Beach Theme: Read a book which has a beach scene or a body of water (sea, river, lake, shoreline) on the cover. Be sure to post the cover for verification.

7 - 8. Book-2-Movie: Read a book that has been made into a movie and then watch the movie or vice-versa. Worth 2 categories.

9. Explore-A-Genre: Read a novel that is classified as "chick-lit" or a light, humorous book about a young single, working woman in an urban setting.

10. Read a book of your own choice or if you joined the Pick-It-For-Me Challenge, your recommended book.

Any suggestions for a UF or PNR that would fit the aviation category? That one's gonna be tough for me.

Hmm, I wonder if a character with wings would do? Angles or genetically modified humans...?

What about Goddess of the Sea by P.C. Cast? An Air Force Sgt.'s aircraft crashes into the sea and she meets merpeople. I haven't read it yet but I may read it for this category.

Annvelwis,

That's a unique twist on the "aviation" theme.

Okay..anything that involves flying, mechanical or magical, is allowed for that category..including creatures with wings or has the ability to take flight.

I know it stretches it a bit, heh...

Oh that makes it so much easier. Thanks! :)

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 772 comments Hi Yz, Another great crop of challenges :) Just wondering if the book I just read would fit into the "friendship" theme. [Book: In bed with the devil] by Lorraine Heath. It is the start of a series which features a group of orphans/street kids who remain strong friends as adults. The one I just read had the hero wanting the heroine to train his long-time friend to be able to move among the aristocrocy so that he could marry her.

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Sounds like "friendship" to me. That will work quite well for the category, LibraryLass.

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 772 comments Cheers, Yz...Where is everybody today?? Feels like we are the only 2 here. I s'pose they are all reading! LOL - as we should be.

message 13: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments LOL...Seems like it.

I should be reading, too, but can't seem to get into the mood. Plus I was wrapping up last month challenges...where as I've already mentioned, I did quite dismally...LOl

message 14: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 772 comments I just got home from looking after my Grandma, which always makes me sad so am not really in the mood either. I've been busy exploring my next reads instead of doing them!

message 15: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 772 comments Hi Yz, another query for you. I am not really into books made into movies or vice versa (the only really successful one I have seen is The bone collector by Jeffery Deaver), but Marley A Dog Like No Other came across my desk today and I thought it may fit 7 & 8 as I have yet to watch the movie and would like to. I don't really want to read the adult edition of this story, so would the kids' edition fit???

message 16: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I don't have a problem with whatever version you choose. It obviously fit the category, and sometimes its just as fun to read a simplified edition.

Enjoy!

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 772 comments Cheers Yz!

message 18: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 772 comments Just wondering if Freefall by JoAnn Ross would be ok for the aviation category. I put it in the beach cover, but there is a big scene with a helicopter crash which causes Zach to have PTSD. So can I put it in that category or not?

message 19: by Emily (new)

Emily I've got a stupid question. In the second category, the one about the August birthdays, do I pick from a specific shelf or any of them? Like, if they have a book marked as to-be-read, does that count for the challenge if I read it? *LoL* This is my first monthly challenge so I'm sorry if it's been answered before and I'm just too blind to find it. *LOL*

message 20: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments LibraryLass,

Well, it has a vehicle that flies...so I guess it will work..LOL!

Emily,

Any book in any of their shelves will work. We just used this category to poach on other members' shelves..LOL.

Hope you are enjoying your first challenge.
