Hi Peggy - I think she said she did not count the 2 points for the author's age because she could not find out. I think that is why she posted 10 points. Actually, I have the same issue. I know her month and day, but not the year she was born.

I loved it to pieces : )
Some interesting background: Tove Jannson wrote this book following the death of her summer in 1972. The Grandmother in "The Summer Book" is based on Tove's mother. The book is largely a tribute to her mother and a place for Tove's bereft inner child to seek the comfort of her "grandmother's" company.

Scoring: 17 Points Total (Or 16 depending on "verb" ruling.)
Title (excluding subtitles): Rain: 5 Points (if accepted)
a. 4 points if the title starts with your associated word
d. 1 point if the title contains a verb Would "rain" be considered a verb in this case, or just a noun?
Author: Shaun Harbinger: 3 Points
b. 3 points if the author was born in Europe (I'm making an assumption on this one since the books are set in England)
c. 2 points if the author is younger than 50 (I have no idea, can't find any bio info on the author.)

You could have the 1 point for rain as a verb, but not the 4 points for European author if you don't know it for a fact. Kate Morton is Australian I believe but her books are also set in England so that's not valid reasoning.
But all this doesn't matter... I took over the standard challenge rules which say that a book must be at least 175 pages and yours is shorter. So sorry :(

Aww :(
I wondered about the pages, but since I didn't see it mentioned in the first post I thought it would be okay. I actually didn't realize it was that short until I looked up the page numbers on GR just a few minutes ago. Oh well, it is all good, and the month isn't over yet! :)
And why on earth does an author have zero information in the book or online about themselves? The only thing I have been able to find is that he is a fan of the horror genre. lol.

And yes, that's weird. If I had written a book and was read on GR I would write a bit about myself!

Thanks! I always forget about that feature. My points total has been changed to 17, for eggs and hospital.

What about the cover ruling? I'm thinking it's a no go as well but wanted to give it a shot.

You can coint those points, scoring rules don't specify that they have to be the exact same shade.

I have decided to read Yellow Crocus by Laila Ibrahim. It has been on my tbr list for a long time.

This made me think of my conversations with my husband about colors. He is colorblind, but will still argue with me about what color something is.
