Yeah you are right...Its as in The fresh leaves that bud in the spring time... Usually we wore colorful clothes when we performed!

message 69: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Been through 2 chapters of catcher... how can I cannot not think of Perks while reading this. Hell yeah its a rip off!

This is a small book Arpit. So I'll wait after completing chapter 5 if you're not able to match the speed. It'll be fun to read with you rather than leading alone.

message 70: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments colorful clothes? I haven't heard of/seen colorless clothes in my life :P :P Just kidding!

Started. Done with 2 chapter.
It is a totally new experience for me. I haven't read any such book. It's different.
Although I'm confused about it. I mean it's funny, no doubt. But it's weird. Look how he speaks!! Teenagers don't speak like him, do they?

Teenagers in the US speak very rough! Salinger has used the perfect accents! And the experiences he has when he has nowhere to go and doesn't know what to do, if you have ever stayed 2 or 3 nights outside ur home on your own, you would know!! Really really romantic indeed!

message 76: by Diptarup (new)

Diptarup Ghosh Dastidar | 83 comments Often the place where you sit and read matters a lot how your experience would be!

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Diptarup wrote: "Often the place where you sit and read matters a lot how your experience would be!"

Ditto! Also the frame of mind and mood decides a lot.
By sitting in the gardens and reading, you're doing proper justice to the book. Glad to read your transcendental feeling :)

Yes the teenagers do speak like that and all! Glad Salinger hasn't used much obscenities and all... But he's ended many descriptions with 'and all' and all!
Enjoying it, but not able to get the jokes or context at a couple of times. Will quote it here next time.

For instance in Chapter 3,
Ackley kid asked "What the hellya reading?".
"Goddam book."
He shoved my book back with his hand so that he could see the name of it. "Any good?" he said.
"This sentence I'm reading is terrific." I can be quite sarcastic when I'm in the mood. He didn't get it though.

Even I didn't get it :\
Did you?

I'm done till chapter 5 and will wait for you.

Ha ha! he meant to say that it is the worst sentence he has ever read!! :P you know... sarcasm and all! :P I just ended a parliament of owls! :D

message 81: by Diptarup (new)

Diptarup Ghosh Dastidar | 83 comments Did you guys know, the name of this chapter has a striking resemblance to a medieval dream allegorical poem called "A Parliament of Fowls"... If interested check this out

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Sarcasm and all :D ha ha!
Thanks Diptarup.

To learn some "certain thing" , right?
There's also a 'parliament of owls' chapter in Narnia books. I'm not sure in which book:( Maybe in yours:|

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Ok so I'll start reading.... and move forward from Chapter 6 and all.
How do you feel about all of this goddamn sonuvabitch Holden and all?

message 87: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments And Mr Holden is now on his own! I like this phase of the story starting at Chapter 8 - the train to New York.
Don't think I'll be able to put this down. Very interesting.

message 88: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments I'm done till chapter 13.
Sorry Arpit for not 'buddy reading' with you, but I'll not be able to resist this. Want to finish it today!

message 89: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments By the way, have they anywhere revealed the real age of Holden?
I know its all Holden's account that we're reading and he admits time and again how BIG a liar he is :P

My guess is somewhere between 14-16... not sure though.

message 90: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Tried googling Holden's age in catcher... a character analysis flashed the number 17. But closed it immediately for I suspect it might contain spoilers!

message 91: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments How dumb of me!!
The blurb clearly says :
"... Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school...."

message 92: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments On chapter 19 now. And liking it more and more by each chapter. Some of the punches by Holden are too good!!
For instance this in chapter 17 :
(view spoiler)

message 93: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Also observed, now Holden is not frequently using that corny 'and all', and thats killing me!

Funny and stupid.
You?

The way he narrates it, is hilarious. And now I've become accustomed of his language.

message 96: by [deleted user] (new)

Gorab wrote: "Also observed, now Holden is not frequently using that corny 'and all', and thats killing me!"

Yep. Is there a single thing which doesn't kill him?

Well, today means 18 march. I'm on chapter 17. Will finish it today.

message 98: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Arpit wrote: "Funny and stupid.
You?"

Yeah funny and stupid :D
In fact, funny but not that stupid. Rather than reading a book, its more like listening to a teenager muttering non stop random rants...

I'm on Chapter 25, and here's how I feel so far.
Pency part - 3 stars. (Till around chapter 8)
Journey home part - 4 stars (Till chapter 20 or so...)
Afterwards - 5 stars... and I have couple of more chapters to go. I hope this 5 star feel prevails till the end.
Me too will finish it and post review today (18th March)

message 99: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments And going by chapter 24, I feel there will be a lot for us to discuss by the end of it.

message 100: by [deleted user] (new)

Completed.
Wanna read the short story "Slight Rebellion off Madison" featuring Holden Caulifield?
