(view spoiler)[ Holy crap. I knew things were going a little too well. This chapter brought on the pain like you wouldn't believe it. Emma and Julian were going okay, but ouch how it ended! I know why Emma is doing what she's doing, but still ouch. However, I'm glad Tiberius and Kit (who can only be the surprise love interest) are getting set up for that plot. I called it that Kit was the lost Herondale the second it was said he looked nothing like his father before describing his hair. Also, I'm worried about what Mark is doing. Sometimes I really like his character, other times I want to strangle him. Furthermore, Cristina and Diego finally figuring their stuff out. I wonder if Jaime is going to come in later in the books. I cannot imagine waiting another year after this chapter. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ The first chapters were kind of drag but as usual it picked up speed. I'm glad Mark is back, somehow, I was wondering would they see them or smth like that. I love Julien and it hurts me that he loves Emma, I know she loves him too but she doesn't realise it yet, but Jules does, and I know that he never wanted to be a prabatai, I remember that Simon noticed it during their ceremony in Shadow Hunters Academy's last book. Actually I knew that he loved her from TMI, and I'm still mad at Emma for doing that. He didn't want it but agreed to do that for her, and she was so driven by revenge that never so his displeasure :/
I hope we will see more of TMI characters. Especially Magnus, this was not enough :D (hide spoiler)]

And I already am used to Cass's writing style I guess, so I was expecting Annabel to be awakened at the end. And Jules and Emma was expected, I was suspecting she was going to go after Mark for this, but I'm not sure if that won't drive Jules more toward the madness? And Cristina and Diego, I totally disapprove, I ship Marstina, if it's their shipname lol Hopefully they'll be together at the end, Diego is good but Mark is the best, and I want her with him, since Kieran's jealous behavior. What he did wasn't really forgivable :/ lived it but I can't say that the final results of the events were not expected :) (hide spoiler)]

i have a question, because as i read this, i'm confused. the war that went on in TMI, is it called the Dark War or the Cold peace? is there something i'm missing? was there a war that happened in between the end of TMI and this one?

The Dark War is the war that happens in City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire. The Cold Peace is from the treaty that followed the victory of the war. The Cold Peace (which is based off the real life Treaty of Versailles) took away faerie territory, made them pay money, removed their rights of protection, and they lost their right to an army. Much like the Treaty of Versailles, the Cold Peace is just asking to start another war, which is one of the main issues that is going to be addressed in the rest of The Dark Artifices books.

The war was called the Dark War. The Cold Peace is the agreement or laws that the Clave came up with after the Dark War that bans any activity with the fae.
