Chapters 1-9 (30%)

(view spoiler)[ I forgot how much I enjoy reading about the shadow world. I am enjoying this book so far. To start with I think I was expecting more of a Jace and Clary love dynamic and not so right off the bat in my face oblivious love between Emma and Julian, but I LOVE IT! and I want more of it. I also think I may be in love with Julian, is it too soon?? I know I'm only 9 chapters in but he is by far one of my favorite male characters that I have read from Cassandra Clare and I loved his "When you love someone" speech on page 100. With that being said I do not like Emma's on again off again boyfriend Cameron. I too think he is annoying but that could just be due to my blinding love for Julian haha. I also don't trust Mark. I feel like the Fey just handing him over like that was WAY too easy. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 9-16

(view spoiler)[ I'm feeling a little annoyed by this book. I'm liking it but I also feel like it's taking a long time for them to get to any new leads. Also, I completely understand that Emma and Julian cannot be together because they're Parabatai but how blatantly oblivious can they be about being completely in love with each other??? Another also, I really like Mark and Kieran together even though Kieran flat out told Mark to come back to the hunt when his two weeks are over or however long they have to solve the murders which wasn't cool because he's basically telling him to forget his family and leave them behind which isn't fair of him to ask. But to end that, something about Mark still feels off to me so we will see. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ WOW. Everything in this book just comes together from chapter 16 onwards. Emma and Julian. Cristina and Perfect Diego. I feel bad for Kieran when he sees Mark and Cristina in the kitchen because I think he has deep feelings for Mark and what he sees in the kitchen is taken out of context. ALSO, Lady Midnight is a Blackthorn!?!?! This book got really crazy and intense really fast! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Up till the last 2 pages I was really enjoying this book! But then Emma asked Mark to pretend to fake date her and I felt like I was dragged back to elementary school. I understand that she can't be with Julian and that she wants to make Julian fall out of love with her but this is as bad as an Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle. All in all, though, I fell in love with the book in chapter 16. I felt like that was when everything started picking up and things started falling into place. However, and I hate to say this but, Ty annoys me because I feel like he doesn't at all appreciate or realize everything that Julian does for him and the kids, so when he asked Mark to just take over at the end that really bothered me. There were also so many times throughout this book where the kids were just so ungrateful. I don't know, it might be an unpopular opinion but that's how it felt to me. I also just want to hug Julian and tell him that I appreciate all he does and that the sun will shine on him one day. He has given up everything for Emma and his family and now in the second book he's going to have to deal with Emma leaving him and Mark shoving it in his face that he and Emma are falling in love??? Someone, please give this guy a hug. (hide spoiler)]

This book was fun, I've really missed reading new entries in the Shadowhunters-verse. Definitely had some issues with the writing and wasn't overly impressed with the plot, but so far I've always found that I like CC's later books in series better than the first ones, so I am looking forward to continuing with the series! Initially I wasn't looking forward to it because of the length. But it's actually a pretty quick read.
