Character Thoughts:
(view spoiler)[I loved every character in this book for some reason or another. I loved how strong Emma was, and while sometimes careless, she knew what she did is wrong sometimes, compared to Clary. I loved Julian's fierce dedication for his family, and to Emma, and how nothing was going to stop that. I loved the twins and Drusilla for their personalities, and how different they all were from each other. I loved Mark's "faeriness", and how he didn't fit in to situations unless he wanted to, but how he still wasn't weak and carried his own personal conflict and troubles. And even though Malcolm caused everyone so much pain, I couldn't have thought of a better villain. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Jeez this book messed me up. So many twists and turns, I never was able to guess correctly what was gonna happen, from who the Guardian was to how Julian and Emma were gonna turn out (I got that so wrong.) (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I love the different perspective on shadowhunter life this gave us. Emma was a not new shadowhunter, or an altered one, and seeing her hard training and extensive use of runes show us how a normal shadowhunter would fight more, and how their life was more like. (hide spoiler)]

Overall Thoughts:
(view spoiler)[I would say this is the best book this year, but I read Winter and a Court of Thorns and Roses this year as well, but it's definitely in the top three with those. I loved the twists and turns, and the amazingly crafted characters. Cassandra Clare has definitely done it again, and I can't wait (actually can't wait) until the second book comes out next year (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11-12 (view spoiler)[ Well now, I was going to come complain about the darn kids keep interrupting the romantic moments. Mark/Christina at the end of chapter 11 then Emma/Jules in Chapter 12. But wow at the end of that chapter, guess now we know why Mark may want to go back to the hunt, never expected that moment at the end but of course it still seems the kids interrupted as they were in the car when it pulled in. I'm on chapter 15, really enjoying this, my story is I read the first book COB did not like it!
So, I've read nothing else in that series, and what a difference tone this book as compared to the previous, and I think they have done a good job of explaining things that I don't feel completely lost, or really lost at all, although I'm sure there are some things I'm not understanding because I haven't read the series, but this is inspiring me to go back and read both the previous series.
