Raul | 62 comments Hi Lori! I think your English is quite good for someone whom it isn't a first language!
My name is Raul, 21 (turning 22 in a month though :)), I'm from Nairobi, Kenya.I guess I've always loved reading books ever since I can remember, but unfortunately homosexuality is still seen as a taboo where I'm from which makes it difficult for me to access books with LGBT characters or themes. My friends also say I'm shy when meeting people for the first time (but I don't really think I am!!). Other than books, I also enjoy music and watching tv shows and learning about different cultures.

I've seen native English speakers who can't spell as well as you do, so I'd say you're doing just fine. :)

Welcome to the group!

Greg A warm welcome Lori!

Funny thing - the only book I've ever read in a foreign language was Plata quemada in Spanish (about gay bankrobbers). I'd seen the movie version Plata Quemada, and I was really curious about the book, but it hadn't been translated into English at the time.

Hope you find lots of great English language books! What are your favorite types of books?

I was more curious about Plata quemada because of the movie; the book was so hard to read because of my limited Spanish that I can't really tell how good it was. :)

I like a wide range too including YA, mystery, and contemporary too. And I'm a big poetry lover Lori! Which poets have you tried?

The Spanish language poets I've read are: Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Gloria Fuertes, Jorge Luis Borges, Juana Inez de la Cruz, Antonio Machado,Gioconda Belli, Federico García Lorca, and Octavio Paz. I read them all in English translations though!
