Nice! I'm looking forward to it. :)

Some other ideas for Absolute versions:
JLA:Year One by Waid/Kitson (I really enjoyed this and would pick it up in a heartbeat)
Superman: Birthright by Waid/Yu
Superman: Red Son
Batman: Black Mirror
Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters
Batman Demon series: Birth/Bride/Son

I like these ideas. Red Son is one I would really love to add to my library though it's pretty short for an absolute. Black Mirror would be on point.
I have yet to read the Demon series. I'd want to pick that up if they released it.

Depending on how successful Absolute Batman : Court of Owls was we will most likely get an Absolute Batman : Zero Year.
@Relstuart - The demon series is good, but not landmark or anything, but worth reading. I think all three together would fit nicely in one Absolute.
@Aildin - I would't be surprised either. Death of the Family is a little short for an Absolute right? Unless they combine it with Endgame (which I still haven't read yet.)

Death of the family is too short and I wouldn't combine it with Endgame. I don't think there is a need to get all of the Snyder run in Absolute either and Court of Owls and Zero Year are really the key parts of that run.Zero Year is the perfect size for the medium too( 12 issues).
Thanks. Yep. Someday. Just lower on the list. There are some other absolutes I wouldn't mind having but there are too many other things I really want first and there's only so much cash. :)
In a couple months I'll post my omnibus shelves.

I feel you. I've had that book on my list to buy for a long time too.

Looking through Warren Ellis' comic history, I would really like an Absolute Stormwatch by Ellis. It's equal to or better than Authority story-wise and it leads so nicely into Authority. Sadly, I'm not sure DC would ever go back to printing Wildstorm stuff.
Here's the official solicitation from DC Comics detailing what is in the Absolute Batman Year One. Some questions were answered about whether this would be the recolored version or the original (the answer is BOTH) and how are they going to fill in the slipcase when the story is only four issues long?
I'm a little more inclined to get it now, kind of depends on the price.

ABSOLUTE BATMAN: YEAR ONE presents one of DC Comics’ most lauded tales in two hardcover volumes contained by a slipcase.
The first volume will reprint the recolored version of the story from previous collected editions, remastered with new, high-resolution scans of the original coloring by David Mazzucchelli and Richmond Lewis.
The second volume will reprint the original 1987 version of the story as it ran in BATMAN #404-407, reproduced from scans made by Mazzucchelli and Lewis from the printed comic book pages, presented on stock that simulates the look and feel of the original comics. This volume will include Miller’s complete scripts and Mazzucchelli’s complete pencil layouts for all four chapters!
Together, the two volumes will include more than 60 pages of bonus material, including everything seen in the existing hardcover and trade paperback collections.
I'm not sure, owning the HC in two printings already. That is an awful lot of fluff to go for $75-$125 per issue??
Agreed. I've never been one to enjoy the scripts and to pay for an extra copy with new coloring that I don't like seems a waste too. Maybe if it doesn't sell and the price drops in the market.
Hi Blindzider,I can see Absolute Justice on your shelf. How is it, story wise? I know Alex Ross' art is breathtaking to look at. I found a great deal and bought it on impulse. But now I am hesitating to start reading it. I guess, I am looking for reassurance :)
I enjoyed it. It doesn't have the depth of Kingdom Come but it's worth reading, more of a villain doing something bad and the good guys go after him. I remember being surprised at how much I enjoyed it because I had low expectations.
Note that the art is Ross painting over Braithwaite. It's still good, just looks slightly different.
Let me know what you think after reading it.

Nice, Absolute top 10 is worth a fortune now.
Hey guys, I was wondering whether I should get the sandman omnibus editions or absolute editions? I want it to go well with my absolute preacher so are the omnibuses the same size? Also which is simply better?
Well the Absolute would look better on the shelf with Preacher because they are the same size. Omnibus is smaller but generally thicker.
The Absolutes have a nicer quality to them, with the slipcase, bookmark and for me the larger size is the draw. But Absolutes can be expensive and there are times when the art doesn't justify the cost of the purchase.
Sandman is high on many lists but I'm not sure what the Absolutes are going for these days. I'm afraid I don't have either Sandman or Preacher so I can't really give you an opinion.

The absolutes are in print and since they'll go well with preacher I'll get them. Thanks!
I just really want to see more Superman titles in the Absolute format. We have like a dozen Batman Absolute editions abut only four Superman titles including the Superman/Batman volumes. I would love to see Superman Red Son, Superman For All Seasons, Superman: Secret Identity, and Byrne's original Man of Steel mini series in the Absolute format. Thoughts?
I'd love to see an Absolute Red Son, but is it long enough for an absolute? It's only 4 issues isn't it?
I agree, Donavan. I think the release of Batman: Year One has changed the rules a little for the length of the Absolute format. Plus With how much of the other Loeb/Sale work has been released, I am incredibly surprised we haven't seen a For All Seasons Absolute yet.
They could do a Superman by Sale which would include For All Seasons and Kryptonite. The writing isn't as good but it does feel like a sequel.
Oh, that would be great! I really enjoyed that story. I do not think it was Cooke's strongest stuff but it was definitely the hopeful awe inspiring superman that many writers cant nail down. And of course the art is fantastic and fits the tone perfectly.

I would buy one. :)
I have the first four Sandman Absolutes and they are very nice. Both the omnibus versions and the Absolutes look great on the shelves. The Absolutes sound like they will be a bit easier to read based on feedback from omnibus readers saying the binding was tight and the two books felt pretty bulky. But the omnibus volumes are the cheaper option.

So we've got Transmetropolitan, Y the Last Man, and Preacher, all Vertigo titles. Any guesses/suggestions on what the next Vertigo Absolute title will be?
Scalped certainly seems the obvious choice but maybe there are others I'm not aware of. I don't know if the art would look good blown up. It can be a little muddy at times.

I'm hoping American vampire, though there could also be the followingSweet tooth
Fables
Lucifer
100 Bullets
The unwritten.
Lucifer is great, better than sandman imho
With the critical acclaim of 100 bullets I wouldn't be surprised to see that in absolute format. Plus I would think the art would justify the absolute treatment.
100 bullets was my first thought, but that's 100 issues. Fables is 150 issues. Not sure if they have a limit in mind (Sandman is 75 issues, I think?)
Other Morrison stuff comes to mind: Invisibles, Doom Patrol and Animal Man (none of which I need in Absolute.)
I'm trying to remember what stuff had the most acclaim...

Astro City would be my first Vertigo pick for Absolute editions. American Vampire doesn't have any oversize editions so it sounds like it could be an option. I'd probably at least try the first volume. I would be very tempted by Fables. I just finished reading up to DLX vol 7 and it is very good. It would probably be 7 or 8 Absolute editions.
Unwritten needs to finish coming out in DLX before they think about Absolutes IMHO.
An off the wall option for Absolute consideration, Grell's Green Arrow. John Bryne's work on Superman (About 22 issues worth) or his Batman Superman Generations material could be worth review to see whether an omnibus or Absolute treatment could be worthwhile. Marvel hasn't been backward putting out some of his work lately.

Yeah I'm a little surprised Grell's green arrow hasn't been done with the show being popular. There's also James Robinson's Golden Age or Gibbons/Rude's World's Finest. There's still plenty of classic (80's) stuff that needs to be collected.
Can anyone comment on Watchmen vs. V for Vendetta in Absolute format? I have old paperback copies of both and would ultimately like to upgrade both to Absolutes but I am unfamiliar with the absolute volumes in general.
I can't comment on owning the Absolutes. I can comment on Watchmen Deluxe hardcover however and it's total garbage. Tight glued blinding with so much excess glue that pages tore, gutter loss, cheap pulpy paper.
Owning several Absolutes I can say that the mere presence of them is worth the money. Binding is great, next to no gutter loss and they fold up really well. On the shelves though I'm always undecided on how to put them. In the slipcase showing the back of the book or the back of the slipcase? Without the slipcase? Currently they are in the slipcases with the book's back facing me. Next week I might turn them around.
I'm not an expert with binding but I've never noticed a major problem with the absolutes.
I prefer the back of the slipcase showing but as you know not all of them have the title printed there so right now I have the book side showing.
